In a world like today - How do we keep children, children?

So many influences are being pushed onto kids these days.
No kid is safe from the marketing gurus.
4 year olds now want to wear bra's and act like Brittany Spears!
What is the world coming to, when our kids are no longer allowed to have a childhood?
How do parents cope?
Please pass your methods on to others and help us to give children their fun and innocence back until it is time to be a teenager...and not before!

My DS is 14 months old, and we want him to be a kid as long as possible. We do things as a family, watch appropriate tv shows, play with him everyday, read as a family, We try to teach him our values, and limit his exposure to those bad influences. Sure, he'll see them eventually, but we want him to have a good head on his shoulders when he does. We're hoping to be able to homeschool him, so he doesn't have to worry about all the marketing at school and the problems that come from those kids who aren't so innocent. It might be a bunch of pipe dreams, but we're going to do our best with him.

Go for your dreams I say!
I can understand your feelings completely.
Home schooling is good to a point, but then limits their social skills.
Its a tough one. Good luck for the future, I hope your dreams come true!
