Do you think that there should only be one best friend in your lifetime?

I admire people who has kept intouch with their childhood friends. Who have what they call a bestfriend through the years. I on the other hand tend to lose contact with some of my friends in previous stages of my life. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't value them but sometimes when I move from place to place I tend to make new friends and just lose contact with them. Sometimes when I bump into an old friend it seems the connection is no longer there and the previous best friend I considered now has a new best friend.

Hi! I understand what you are saying, and yes, life changes all the time, we grow apart but true freinds will always be there.
I have several friends that I have lost contact with, but feel very blessed to have known them at all.
I also have 2 best friends that I consider my "sisters" these are friends that I will have till I die. We have know each other since we were very young.
It is also important to remember that if you want to stay close to people you must make an effort, it is a two way street. I tend to have to remind myself of this when I think about the friends I have lost touch with.
Have an AWESOME ONE!
:) Glo

Thank you for that reminder. I know that to keep a friend one has to make an effort. But I almost always forget that :)

Hello there!
Friendship as defined by wikipedia "is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more humans."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendship
You can find useful informations there to read and ponder upon. :D
Now, to answer your question, here's what I can say.
It is okay to have one or more best friends in our lifetime. Those best friends we have may not be always on the same level as the other, but they are your best friends nonetheless. Why not limit yourself with just one best friend when you can have two or three more.
Technically though, as the word "best" implies, you can have only one. Don't mind the technicalities. LOL. Just go out there and be the best person that you could possibly be. Welcome new friends. Learn from each other. Share with each other. Gain trust, return the trust.
Life is a journey. And yes, it's a jungle out there. Friends add color and spice in our lives. Their presence in our lives makes one's journey in life more enjoyable and meaningful.
Have a nice day.

I have over the years hung on to some very close friends I have of course made new friends as well from time to time. I have found having one or two extremely close friends over a period of 10 or more years have been my best reliable friends. I believe the saying one good friend is far better than several fair weather friends. TAKE CARE.
