I am seeking to hear from members here about any experiences they've had on the internet in general with friends. I especially would like to hear stories of traveling near or far to meet a friend you know here on the internet. I think this will be a very good discussion. So I'll relate a couple of my travel excursions to meet internet friends. First off I have AOL as my ISP. I'm also an alcoholic so I visit these 2 sights often..http://aa.org/en_information_aa.cfm & http://www.sober.com/ On AOL they have chat rooms in various topics & areas. One is BillW rooms which are for mostly not just alcoholics though. I visit them often. I'v made friends with many there also. After chatting with a man I know as Ron for a couple years I asked about his AA clubs meeting schedule. Well I shocked him as I said I was leaving right away to drive from Minneapolis to Milwaukee to meet him for a meeting at AA. I had a blast & now we both travel back & forth to go to each others AA clubs. Then theres a world AA convention held every 5 years. We had it awhile back here in Minnesota. I went there to have a good 4 days. Walking around I spotted a group from New Hampshire. Lo & behold I met a few people in that group which I chat with online also. We stay in touch a lot. I've also met other people from other chat rooms near me. I've driven as far as New Orleans (20 hrs) to meeet someone I'd chatted with for a few years also. Anyhow thats a short (LOL) description of a couple of my traveling to meet friends from the internet. Let's hear yours please? Happy Postings from Grandpa Bob.

Hiya Grandpa Bob! I've made alot of friends on the net, mostly thru pogo.com but only actually met 2. My 1st meeting was when my g/f from Penn. drove here to stay for a week in our house. She was nervous about staying here cause she always stayed in a hotel when she met other online friends but she got over it pretty quick when she got here and my daughter flew off the bus right into her arms for a huge hug. My daughter, who had no idea my g/f was coming, knew who she was by the pictures she sent thru email and her voice from talking to her on the phone. Her visit was cut short cause her asthma was acting up and she was worried she would go into a full blown attack so far from her doctor. Still, it was fun while she was here. Now she lives in FL so harder to meet up again. I'm hoping next year we will be able to take a long needed 2wk vacation and drive down to see her again.
My 2nd meeting was with another g/f in WI. We drove up to her place for new years couple years ago. Another fun meeting. She is leary of dogs cause she was attacked by a Lab long time ago but agreed to let me bring Shady..bless his loving soul... and fell in love with him instantly. She cried when I called last Aug. and told her he was ready to leave this world. Her and her fiance came down last spring for our daughter's 8th b-day and enjoyed her softball game that weekend. That's when she met Domingo. Once he approved of her, she couldn't keep him off her lap.lol Lil stinker even manuvered his way between them during the nite and shoved them both off the bed. lol It was great having them down. It was a nice sunny day and we made good use of the grill after my daughter's game then the guys went fishing while we walked down the street to the quiet country bar for a few drinks. Came home and enjoyed the rest of the day till the guys got home. Very relaxing and hope we can do it again this spring. Beginning of April is our daughter's spring break so we will be heading back up there to spend the weekend with them. Since it will be warmer (hopefully), we will be able to do more. It was freezing cold that new years and we didn't go anywhere.
Anyways, I'd better stop rambling or I'll never get to your other posts. lol
tc and have a great day, Grandpa Bob. :-)

I don't meet people over the internet anymore, although I had met a couple people in the past. In fact, I met my husband online. You just have to be careful and definitely meet in public places and such. The internet can be a great way to meet new people with common interests and it's alot of fun!

Lets see, I have travelled from the UK to the Republic of Ireland in the name of internet friendship, and I've travelled from the UK to Canada in the name of love that first blossomed online.
Whilst living in Canada, myself and my partner also travelled for 8 hours to go meet with someone that we're both very close to. She's a friend that we met online also, and we're all close to her. She's like family to us, and to her son we are Aunt and Uncle. We try to visit her once a year because it's a VERY long journey (this year we're headed up for Easter) and we always have a total blast.
It's amazing how many wonderful people you can meet online. When I get married next year, many of our "Internet friends" are coming along to help us celebrate. It's going to be a huge event with people from Canada, the States, the UK, Holland, Ireland, and Australia in attendance. It's wonderful that so many people will be helping us celebrate and we all have one thing in common.
We met online.

hi...i dont meet ppl from the internet. i have only been in a chatroom once and it was sick. i go on myspace, and i leave comments and stuff to the friends i have in real life. like i know them from school and everthing. i dont think its safe to meet ppl from the internet. be careful, u might think these ppl are all like u but one might be crazy. the reason i dont meet ppl is bc its not safe, have u heard of all the horror stories about that kinda stuff. "man set up a casual meeting with someone he'd met online, and found cut up in a million pieces" thats not true, but it could happen. good luck.

Thanks for this response. All are appreciated. I've yet to run into a "bad" or "sicko" type yet in all my years of being online. I've met a lot of "crazies" is all. They type that seemed to have forgotten their meds. or something. HAHAHA. J/K. You know what I mean I hope. I am always careful when I do meet people. It's always in a crowded puclic place usually near some Government place. I even once met a man that I'd chatted with for a few years at his local Police Departments Parking lot. Now tell me that isnt safe. It was a smaller town where the lot was in the front of the building with windows right there. HAHAHA. Thanks again. Happy postings from grandpa Bob.

I frequent a mystery shopping message board with quite a few fellow Floridians as members. Although one of them threatened - LOL - to come watch one of my clogging shows last March, she didn't make it. I've never met anyone I've befriended online, but I think it would be awesome to.

I also have plans to meet one of my Best friends I met in a TalkCity game room like 9 yrs. ago in September, if everything goes well. This should be a lot of Fun as well. great discussion topic..I have alot of friends on the internet I am not big on chatrooms but do have alot of messengers and have met alot of fun people here on line;;;..About 7 years ago I met a man online and we spent alot of time chatting both on line then it went to talking on the phone..I eventually moved 700 miles to spend two weeks with him and then decided to come and move to where he was from...This relationship lasted a couple years and we ended it but we still are good friends and we met in a very public place at first and to insure my safety.
I then met my now recent man on line also and we have been together now for about 5 years he is the most loving man anyone could dream of and we both spend alot of time on the internet and make sure that both of us still stay in contact with the past friends that we have made..we do have some mutual friends in idaho and have recently planned a vacation to meet up with them and another couple from around that area so am looking forward to that think that it will be great fun.

How far did I travel to meet someone I had met online ?
I crossed an ocean !
And now we are happily married and we got a wonderful 4 months old son !
And I really don't regret it ... he is such a wonderful man ... evethough my relatives didn't really appreiate seeing me go that far ... they now got used to it and thanks to VoIP, I can call my parents - and all my family - in France at no extra cost ! - it is included in my monthly fee ! - so I talk to my mum even more than when I was leaving in France ... and she is planning to come and visit us this summer to meet her grandson ...Ok enough with my life !
Everybody else, your turn ....
And thenk you for that great topic

You're very welcomed. It's surprising how many great stories I;ve heard along this line. Not too many here on myLot yet though. Thats why I started this discussion. To hear more internet love/friendship connections. It all has to do with the wording of the subject matter is it. Anyhow thanks again & grats on the wonderful internet connected marriage. I guess for you 2 it was indeed the WORLD WIDE WEB. Happy postings from grandpa Bob.

Wow! I've met a lot of people online. I met my ex-husband and a bunch of friends on the pre-internet, LOL. There were things called Bullentin Board Systems, most were local although some were national. Sadly, I no longer have contact with them.
I traveled to California (from Ohio) to meet a huge group of people from an online community I was a member of. My girlfriend, who was living with the person I was staying with. Fell in love, at first sight! I've met so many great (and a few not so great!) people online.
It's a trip to finally put a name to the face. Sometimes, you're surprised, sometimes they're exactly like you thought they would be. Often times, you meet someone in person that you chatted with for so long online, that you forget you've just met them (in person!).

I've ran into a few bad ones. Thanks for the rsponse also. It's going to be fun knowing you from what I've heard so far. Happy posting from Grandpa Bob.

When I was about 15 I met this girl from puerto Rico in an artist forum, she was so nice and she said she would come to California when our favorite band would be here in a concert.
When she came here it was total HELL she was so sloppy and she had the biggest attitude ever. UGHH I hated that experience.

Alot of people do it all the time especially for love, people would fly 21 hours or so. Personally, I flew from Reno to Vegas to meet someone from the internet that I met and we became friends. I dated a couple who drove 5 hours to me each way.
