43. Simon rents a car in the city to go skiing in the mountains 100 kilometers away. He stops halfway to pick up his girlfriend Nina at her house, and drives the remaining 50 kilometers with her. On their way back, Simon drops Nina at her house and drives back to the city alone. He returns the car and pays $50 for the rental and $10 for the gas. Simon and Nina share the expenses equitably. How much should Nina pay? 10 15 20 25 30

This is a very difficult question. They are to share it equitably, not equally. Equitably means a fair and just manner. So we have to act like a lawyer or mediator in this case. I think nina has to pay half of what is relavant to half of the journey. So it is $15.

I think I got the logic behind this. The retal is not related to the distance, so it was shared equally with Nina paying $25. Maybe she paid half the fuel cost because she travelled half the distance. So 25+5 is $30. Hope I got it right this time. This is very good exercise for the brain.

Simon travelled twice the distance that Nina did and therefore should pay two thirds of the cost. The overall cost being $60 means that Nina should pay $20.

the answer is the third choice, Nina should pay $20 and Simon should pay $40 if they are each to pay their fair portion of miles and use of the vehicle, as Simon used the car exactly twice the distance as Nina.
