For download software the best solution is download it by the developers project website, so you can read more abuot software that you are downloading

on this website you can find only opensource software, that means that you can download source code ( and modify it ), because opensource software is distributed by GPL ( General Public License) :-)

You can try download.com They have softwares of all kinds and you could be sure that you are not downloading any softwares with viruses as they have a reputation to maintain.They also connect to other websites for the same softwares in case you want to download from some other link.
