They say walking is the BEST exercise! And a good brisk one is best. Yes, it burns calories, and we get used to walking a lot and it's very enjoyable..

Brisk walking (which is slightly better than normal walking) is more suitable for older people who those who do not usually exercise.
If you want to burn calories, it is most ideal for you to run at about 70% of your maximum heart rate. As a rough gauge, your max hear rate is around 220 minus your current age. So if you are 25 yrs old this year, your max is about 195.
To burn cal, run at about 70% of 195 which is about 136 beats per sec. You will need to invest in a heart rate monitor for this. You should be able to get one for slightly over 100 bucks.
Hope this helps! ;-)

The heart beat monitor is good indicator, I would add to consult a doctor before putting up a jogging regime. This is for elderly people.

If you want to burn calories, it's really a stamina thing. You'll burn a few calories anyway, but at exercise level you really do make a difference. Walking is the best possible exercise. You use and move every muscle in your body.
So when walking, at whatever speed, keep going until you can feel the exertion. Preferably not dying of it, but it's a more trustworthy way of knowing you're achieving something with your walk. You'll also find that you can walk further, faster, and feel a lot better.

Nothing better than walking for exercise, including brisk walking. The body is built to walk, so the more walking that is done, the better. The thing to avoid is running or jogging, which so jars the inner organs so much, and damages your feet with high impacts. Walk, walk, walk.
