I had a very big lunch today as my company treats their top employees to the Chinese New Year lunch. The food was a lot!! Dishes after dishes. Almost 10 dishes were there. I ate almost all of the dishes and now, I have a stomach ache!!!
I asked my mom opinion, she said it is because i ate shrimp/prawn whole (means together with the hard layer covering it)
Is it really can cause stomach ache??
Is my stomach ache cause by it or i just ate too much??

i don't think so it's the main reason of your stomachache. you might just be having some stomach upset for eating too much or a gas reflux. i have been eating shrimps since childhood with other kind of foods specially during party but i have never heard somebody been experiencing that condition or even my parents or doctor relatives mentioned of such.

The hard layer is the exoskeleton of the crustacean. I don't think you are supposed to eat that at all. I've never seen anyone eat it. It's hard, and I think it would be very hard for the stomach to digest it and pass it through.

who says we can't eat the shell of the prawn?! May be if it is a lobster then we can't eat the shell because it is very hard, but not to the prawn. I do eat the prawn with the shell sometimes...in fact cooking the prawn with it shell will keep the smell and the taste of the prawn. I think your stomach ache is just because u ate too much food from different kind of dishes. It is normal when u eat too much, sometimes the acid from the dishes will react to your body system.

I don't think the cause is eating the prawns with the shells together. Certainly nothing happened to me - just yesterday, I was licking my fingers off some deliciously fried cereal prawns - meat and shells together.
Eating the shells together just mean your body needs to work harder to digest it - but it shouldn't be a problem for most people.
It could just be that you over-eat. It is not that rare to get stomach upset when you eat more than the quantity you usually indulge in - or when you eat unusually "rich" food.
Just let your body work off the food, you should be fine the next day or 2. ;-)
