My Son Won't Stop Unrolling the Toilet Paper

My son is always getting into the bathroom and playing with the toilet paper. If I catch him right away it isn't a problem. But like when I am in the kitchen he will get the toilet paper and unroll it in the bathroom, down the hallway, through the livingroom, through the dining room and into the kitchen so I can see what he has done. He will be 2 on Friday and spanking him hasn't worked, telling him nicely that we don't play with the toilet paper hasn't worked and I am tired of thrwing away so much toilet paper. When it is unrolled all over the house I can't just roll it back up and use it...I don't want to lock the bathroom door because if I have to go in there I don't want to have to pick the lock 50 times a day. Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks!!

There is this toilet paper proofing thing at onestepahead.com and it makes it so that the toilet paper can't be unrolled-it is suoer easy for adults to un-do so that it isn't a pain, but not easy enough for little ones, you should check it out.

I don't really have this problem as my 2 y.o. son listens quite well when I tell him not to unroll the toilet paper. I've caught him doing it a few times and after telling him repeatedly not to do it, I've not seen him doing it since. I believe there is something you can get to "lock" the toilet roll. I've seen it but can't remember what it's called. Try looking at the baby proofing section at baby stores. They should have it there.

You could buy the kind of toilet paper that doesn't come in rolls but in little seperate sheets. He could have fun pulling them all out but you'll still be able to use them afterwards, it doesn't really matter.

Your local wal-mart or hardware store more than likely sells handle locks. The fit over the handle of the door all you have to do is squeeze them to open the door. My daughter is four and still can't open the doors with these handle protectors. So many accidents can happen in the bathroom that he should not have access to it. I have heard that some fire stations and hospitals will provide these door handles to people who have finical hardships. Think of all the things he could get into. He could be seriously injuried if he tried to climb up on the sink and fell. What if he turned on the hot water? I guess to be honest I worry about everything so my house is super proofed.

can you put the lock on the door the other way around, so it is lockable from the outside- high enough so he can't reach it- if not, try putting the tp up high somewhere so that he can't have access to it. It will be inconvenient to you, but it is better than having him destroy all of the paper.

Depends where your tissue is. You can just close the door of your bathroom. I think a 2-year old child still cannot open a door. or if it's not in the bathroom, you can wrap it up in a plastic and place it in a place where he cannot reach.

He need to use pot next time instead of letting him to go to toilet. You can lock the toilet(s).

My kids are 22 and 27. No, they don't unroll the toilet paper anymore but I have 2 cats that love to do this. What works for us is to take the toilet paper off the holder and put it out of reach of your 2 year old. It has worked with us for our cats. It seems like it might work for you too! Good luck!

Lololol Michele I am so sorry but I am just imagining him doing it. I know it has to be a pain. Are you able to just shut the Door or is he able to reach the Handle. Have you tried just smacking his Hand when he does it? I really do not know what you can do in this case and I do feel for you.

I never had this problem with my son, but maybe if you have a shelve up high put the toilet paper on the shelve or if you dont have a shelve, you can buy them pretty cheaply! Or simply just put a small hook lock on the door to stop your little one from getting in there at all, I know it is annoying to unhook it everytime you need to use the bathroom but whats more annoying having wasted toilet paper all over the floor or unhook a lock when you go to the bathroom, for me it would be the toilet paper all over the floor and the endless amount of $$$ wasted that would be more annoying then just simply unhooking a lock!

I had this problem and the only thing I could do was to put a bolt on the outside of the bathroom door at the top of the door so that my sons couldn't reach. It's a safe alternative to having a lock, and it takes just a couple of seconds to draw the bolt to get into the bathroom when you need to use it. It's a better option than having toilet paper all over the house and having to throw it in the garbage. Hope this helps.

My son does the same thing he is 22 months!! We just shut the door tight! Sometimes that doesn't even work! can you put the toliet paper you high on top of the sink or medicine cabinet?? then when you go in just grab it closer!! Its an extra step and a pain sometimes but its better then going thru 20 rolls a week!! good luck

It seems to be something a lot of kids do as my youngest brother loved doing this, if he saw a new roll of papre he would run aounrd the house with it! My mum used to just pick all of it up and fold them into pleats and leave them next to the toilet and use them- he grew out of it after a while so I think that's all you can do really!

I would close the door to the bathroom for my son. Try one of those door knob covers. You won't have to lock the door but he won't know how to open the door either. Good luck!
