Studying overseas

I think everyone should spend at least one year living in a different country - AND live like the people of that country do. This is a very good way of learning about other cultures, beliefs and values. I think people who get this experience are moe inclined to respect and understand that others have different ways of doing things and thinking than you. If university studies is the best way of doing this i do not know. I believe it is important that one choose a country where one has a fairly good knowledge of the language. Studying will soon improve the language skills so that will not be a problem. Other than understanding what goes on I cannot really see a problem with it. i myself would encorage my kids if they wanted to do this. I did not study at universitylevel in another country, but i spendt one year as an exchangestudent in high school. I am so glad I did that. The experience was great in so many ways. Still i think of this as one of the best years in my life.

I studied overseas for my university education. It's the 1st time I was away from my family. It was very hard cos' I missed my family so much. But it was also some of the best and most memorable years of my life. If that is what my child wants to do, I would definitely be supportive. I've had positive experiences and great opportunities as a result and I would love my child to be able to have that too.
