MyLot: Quantity over Quality

Does it seem to anyone else on here that MyLot is more about how many discussions there are, rather than how insightful/intelligent the discussions are? Not to be rude or insulting, but I've only seen a few thoughtful responses on here so far. It seems like people just say what they have to say and forget all about the topic. It doesn't seem like much of a community. What are your thoughts?

Well, you are right! Quality is simply overwhelmed by quantity at myLot. People just rush to spam the world with meaningless discussions. It is pretty hard for me to find something really worthwhile to respond to so when I come across them, I try to give thoughtful answers. That's also one reason why myLot introduced the Best Response thingy - to encourage quality answers. If you are not already aware, I think the user who gets the vote of confidence gets paid more than the rest. ;-)

Considering what may be meaningless to you. May be meaningful to someone else. Always keep that in mind when asking a question like this. As the members from this site are from different areas of the world and different cultures. Since you don't have very many post at all. I think it is unwise for you to make such an assumption as this. If you would take the time to look further. You will see that there are many many quality discussions made by intelligent members. You just have to look. I suggest you select friends who have discussions you can relate to or enjoy answering. Good luck on my lot.

Yes, you have some very good points. My main reason for feeling this way is that I am also a member of another online forum and the people on that forum seem to really know each other and care about each other. It seems to me that on here, most people just post for the sake of posting. Of course I am not assuming that all users do that, and I have seen some thoughtful responses. I guess I just have to look harder. *sigh.* Thanks for your response!

You need to have good discussions to get good replys and thought provoking commentary. I think that is part of the problem the discussions are often not mature or filling enough with detail to get the quality response asked for.

Well that's right, a large majority of the users are here just to make money and they don't care for a 'discussion' as such. Many are still in the experimenting phase (those who are new) and as a result a lot of junk comes by. There are a lot of meaningful and worthwhile discussions but the knack is in looking for them in the right places. Let me explain. The first thing I do in the morning is look at my mail notifications and respond to discussions started by friends. That happens throughout the day as well. Then I check the top discussions because of late some good ones have been there. I used to look at 'new discussions' but nowadays I've found a better way to spot good discussions. All you need to do is randomly pick a user, preferrably some person whose discussion or response you've read before so that way you have an idea, go to their profile and check out the discussions they've started as well as the ones they've responded to. You will be amazed to see the number of good discussions you've missed out on. All discussions aren't visible all the time so we have to look for them. A lot of time is saved since the user you picked has already found discussions for you ;o) Again depends on whom you pick. I profile hop from time to time.
