Found! Three new COMMANDMENTS

I just picked up a few groceries. At the checkout I saw this headline,"FOUND! 3 NEW COMMANDMENTS". Wow, I thought. I'll bet there are myloters who would like to comment on that. So, I bought the tabloid with the headline. I read it and now I am going to ask you all about it. First, I'll summarize the article. Supposedly in the caves of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, a new ancient document has been found. In addition to the orginal 10 commandments there are supposedly 3 more commandments. They are: 11) Thou shalt not make war upon my innocents. 12) Thou shalt not be absolved of the sins of your leaders. 13) Thou shalt not turn away the needy. To give the story creditability, a supposed Bibical scholar, Dr. Helmut Schein of the Department of Bible History at the University of Koln in Germany is quoted concerning the new commandments. While the new commandments certainly sound like a good idea, isn't this just a bit too much? Comments of any kind within the myLot guidelines would be welcomed.

Typical red! Once again we have a man telling other men what 'Gods will" (the Commandments) are!! As creditable as they may be, is it the fact that if they weren't classified as Commandments no-body would even look at them, never mind discuss them? After the bewitching hour here red, so I bid you and your readers adieu for the night! Keep well mate!

It is hard to tell if these commandments are real or forgeries. In any case I have a problem with number 12. Also, I did a bit of research on the source the Sun quoted. Dr. Helmut Schein of the University of Koln. I could not find any reference to him or any articles he wrote. Maybe he has not published enough or I was looking in the wrong places.

Like yourself, I could not find anything published by Dr. Helmut Schein. I wonder if he is even real. As to the commandments being real, I very much doubt it. What I find interesting is the nerve of people who would attempt such a hoax. That is not to say these commandments are not a good idea, just that they are not very likely to be from God. #12 is actually something that has bothered me for a long time before I ever heard of this article. I recall what happened to the countries whose leaders started WWII. #12 could indeed be a part of the universal plan for how the world operates whether these commandments are real or not.

it's never too much to help the needy and or not make war on the innocent, but #12 that one need some re-thinking.

Consequences for violating #12 were certainly applied without mercy to the citizens of Dresden, Germany and Hiroshoma, Japan.

Well, we should go by what the bible says. In the bible it doesn't state those three additional commandments. I wouldn't pay attention to them.

You make a good point. Also, the SUN is not exactly a religious authority or institution, whereas the bible is.

"The Bible is to reason what the Sun (the tabloid) is to information." I was touched by a noodly appendage, a light shown upon me, a revelation came springing forth into my mind, it was that "You are right!". While trying to understand everyone's position on things, it can make one look confused. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.

If you studied the bible, you'd know that there aren't just 10 commandments, but 613! Good news is, they do not apply to one person alone. There are some that deals with men, some to women, some to the priests and so on. Yeshua (or Jesus as the Christians call him) was the living breathing Torah. When he spoke to people about not offending the little ones, fatherless, widows and orphans, we will always have the poor amongst us and I don't know about #12...doesn't that seem like it would tie in with these new "findings?" Amazing and how perfect G-d's word is!

I will concede that I have not studied the bible very much and was unaware of the 613 commandments. I do not doubt it, though, as I do recall that the bible provided guidance for many aspects of life. These easily could make 613 commandments. Thank you for the enlightening response.

You are right in your opinion of the "SUN". However, instead of hating them, I find them to be fun.

commandment 11 is essentially covered by the commandment Thou shalt not Murder Commandment 13 is essentially covered by Thou Shalt Not Steal or Thou Shalt Not Covet commandment 12 is essentially Thou Shalt not vote republican ever again ever!!!!, Ok, kidding on that one, couldnt resist it ... commandment 12 is not really one commandment, but a whole series of commandments rolled up into one, so it quite good for modern times, 3 for the price of one !!!

Hmmm... you may be onto something as to the motivation of the real author of these commandments. Unless, that is, God is a democrat.

First of allyou read it in a tabloid. Now that should tell you something about the artical. I don't believe anything that I see in those papers. I think that they have writers sitting around the office haveing coffee and discussing what will grab people's attention this week. Any thing haveing to do with religion is good for a big sell so what can we write about now that hasn't been done. Finding new commandents will be a grabber. So they ran with it. I often read those head line while waiting to get checked out and find them very intertaining. But I don't believe any thing that I see in them.

"I often read those head line while waiting to get checked out and find them very intertaining. But I don't believe any thing that I see in them." Good for you and I agree. The entertainment value is why I brought the subject up here at myLot. If we can't have fun here, why bother?

Hmmm, I think its to soon to , but the Thou shalt not make war upon my innocents. is covered by "You shall not murder", and is explained throughtly in the Muslim´s 5th commandment -"....anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people." (5:32)" However if we read the New Testament- 12) Thou shalt not be absolved of the sins of your leaders. 13) Thou shalt not turn away the needy are pretty much covered by Jesus´teachings... I´ll keep watch on this subject, pretty interesting.

Well the # 12 is kind of unfair. Our leaders are grown ups capable of making decisions and assume responsibility of the outcomes, why is it that we have to bear this responsibility too? # 11 and # 13 I already did that just because I believe in karma.

Well, there certainly not real commandments, but they are a good idea. Who wouldn't agree with not killing inocents?
