What 3 Songs most remind you of being a teenager?

I know this is a goofy/random topic, but I was just thinking about it while going through my playlist. The one that probably reminds me the most of being a teenager is "In The Meantime" By Spacehog simply because I heard it so much. I used to have dreams with that song in it! (If you have ever listened to a grunge/rock station regularly you've heard this song. Look up the lyrics!) Another is Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana. I remember just sitting in front of the TV and not believing the lyrics coming out of Kurt Cobain's mouth but being intrigued at the same time. The next week I went and got the album and fell in love with Nirvana and listened to it over and over and over. I still play it twice sometimes when it comes around on my playlist. Last, but not least "Don't Speak" by No Doubt. It just came up in so many appropriate situations and I loved (and still love) Gwen Stefani.

Wow...this is a great question. Number one for me would be "Cars" by Gary Numan. We always had music playing in our house but this was the first time i really sat up and took notice (I was about 13 at the time). Number 2 would be "Numbers" by Kraftwerk...again I was about 13 and was just blown away by the sound...it was so different from anything I'd ever heard (both of those songs shaped what I listen to now which is all pretty much synth driven music..industrial, electronica etc.) and number 3 would actually be a complete album which is "Dazzle Ships" by OMD. My friend and I were about 15 when it came out and we listened to it over and over. I got it on CD a few years back and sent a copy to my friend (he lives in Scotland, I had moved to Canada at that point)...he called me in tears and said how it just took him back to those years, which in turn set me off...I'm sure both our wives were looking at us like we were idiots..LOL

Thinking about this brings back quite a lot of memories for me. Music was such a large part of my life then and it seemed each of my favorite songs spoke some sacred truth about my own life or dreams. I think that if I had to pick just three that I most strongly associate with being a teenager, they would be: Madonna: Papa Don't Preach. I was 16 when I first heard this one and it was on every mix tape I made during those years. I hurt so badly every time I heard it, but it was the kind of hurt I needed to feel at the time. It seems mild by today's standards, but this song was so radical that it created a controversy back then. Things have changed so much, giving young women now options that were unthinkable in most families then, but for when it was released this song took a strong stand against something American society considered right and proper... a stand needed for the good of so many young women. Depeche Mode: Little 15. I was 17 when this song came out and yet it summarizes so much of my teenage years that I always think of it when I think about that time of my life. When I first heard this song I broke down crying. Then I spent days trying to find out the title. This was the first song I wanted badly enough to go to a pawn shop for money to buy an album. I still have that copy of Music For The Masses, though the tape is a bit worn and I consider the ring I sold for the money well worth it. Anne Murray: Danny's Song. This came out a good bit before I was a teenager and I'd heard it several times, but I never really understood it until then. I listened to this song at least once a day between the ages of fourteen and seventeen. It was painful... a song of joy reminding me of a something horrible. At first, with this playing, I could feel something inside me twisting more than it should, as if it would break. Growing up, I discovered the secret in it and I learned how to hope again. I still listen to it from time to time, if I'm feeling low and need a guide back out of the darkness.

oh i loved spacehog :) that song by Len, Steal my Sunshine, will always remind of of the summertime in high school. Weezer also makes me think of high school -- anything from pinkerton or the blue album. Reel Big Fish makes me think about high school, too, not because I listened to them in high school, but because they ACT like high school boys. Good Question, BTW!
