Is Hip-Hop Dead in it's current state? Some may say yes, some may say no. I in fact, say no it is not dead. Here's why. Although mainstream rap is taking over the globe in markets from clothing, sneakers, cologne, sports ownership, alcohol, clubs, radio, etc...I still think that if you dig you can find great Hip-Hop music. Granted there is a lot of junk that is being portrayed as Hip-Hop right now which flat out isn't. Hip-Hop is about expressing one's self, not for money but for a sheer connection with the listener and the audience. It's also about expressing the culture and your everyday life in your music. Now if you are tired of your stereo-typical rappers who talk about guns, women, cars, houses and money then you are reading the right article. I'm now going to provide you with some great names of up and coming artists and sites you can use to locate their music. The New York Mainstream scene is not as popular as it was but that's because the music isn't as good as it used to be. Everyone is making dance records to compete with the south outselling them. Reason for the south outselling where Hip-Hop music began? Fun! They are having fun in their music. Taking it back to the days of getting the crowd amped and being humorous. Everyone is too busy trying to act hard these days and all they want to do is copy other people that are selling. Some good artists to look for with originality but also with mass appeal...Little Brother, Grafh, Saigon, Jae Millz, Tru Life, Rhymefest, GLC, Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, Consequence and Revalation (gotta name myself) to name a few...These artists cover real topics in life as well has making commercially legitimate music. You can find music from upcoming artists like these at places like hiphopdx.com, allhiphop.com, sohh.com or even myspace.com Just enter their names in the search and enjoy listening

hip-hop is dying.
especially the rap. the best mainstream rappers are nas, cassidy, chamillionaire (great lyricist), eminem (ok idk wtf is up with encore), fabolous, mos def, t.i., common, and lupe fiasco.
that's really sad that those are the only active mainstream artists out.
i usually listen to underground eastcoast sh*t.
i rap myself, go to myspace.com/lilstripe and listen to "where my serbs at"
