Help: Morbidly Obese Stepchild

My step daughter is 10 years old and weighs at least 230 pounds if not more. She visits every other week and I can't help but feel sorry for her. Everytime I make suggestions to my husband he gets offended and says that her mother does not want to help her so he feels as if it is out of his hands. I cannot begin to imagine the problems she is going to have in the future not including the problems she may have now that we don't know about. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before?
