Simply said, yes. This is one form, and sometimes just the beginning of a lot of eating disorders. A lot of anoretics believe that if they only chew their food to trick their stomachs into thinking it has been fed, then sit it out they won't consume the calories, but still have the taste enough to satisfy themselves....

That is definitely an eating disorder. It could be any of the disorders, depending on what she does other times. It could be anorexia, bulimia or eating disorder not otherwise specified(ED-NOS); the last one is if a person meets some of the criteria for a disorder, but not diagnosable as such--for example, if she is not underweight, but she chews/spits food and restricts she would definitely be ED-NOS. If you have anymore questions, definitely write to me, I know a lot about this subject and can try to give any advice you may need.

people who intentionally avoid food intake or starve themselves suffer from anorexia nervosa.. patients experience thinning of hair, dizziness, unexplained fatigue, among others. Studies show that one out of five anorexics will eventually die due to lack of nutrients and weakend condition of their body organs.

Your friend has an eating disorder and mental illness. Get her help cause loosing weight doesn't not mean that you have to starve yourself.
