american idol age limit

How come they have an age limit for american idol? How about an older group? there are older people that do really well also.....What a concept! NOW ANNOUNCING.... THe over 40 contestants! Whole new show don't you think?

I love the age limit..if a person that wins makes an album and starts their career as an artist, who is really going to be interested in someone trying to be hip making upbeat songs and they are like 47? I think in the music business if you are young enough to appeal to the audience but old enough to handle the fame you are better off..
