My son lost his first tooth today and is all excited about the tooth fairy but I have no clue how much money "the tooth fairy" is paying for pearly whites these days. Im betting its more than the dollar and sucker that I used to get. I have noone to ask, all my friends have younger children and I want to keep up with the times just incase kids discuss these things at school ?

Isn't it exciting when your child loses their first tooth ? My son was soooo excited that it made me excited too. I chose to give $2 ( four quarters and a loonie) but the best part was the note I included. He came jumping in my bed in the morning and couldn't wait for me to read the note to him. Dont get me wrong he was thrilled about the 5 piles of money too. LOL. It just reminds a person how its the little things that mean so much :)

The most I got was a dollar. Lucky you to get a sucker too! lol. I'd keep it small since he's still young. As he loses more you can probably increase the ammount you give for each tooth.

LOL and here all this time I've denied I was spoiled as a child...hmmmm. I like the advice to keep it small at this age, thanks

My children get a dollar when they get a visit from the toothfairy. I've got a friend who gives her kids a $10 bill for each tooth but I think that that is a little outrageous. On the other hand, I've got another friend who only gives a quarter because that's what it was when she was growing up. I think it all depends on how your child deals with money and how much you feel comfortable giving them.

Lucky for me my kids are very appreciative. My son would be happy with a pack of stickers for that matter but I know at least one other child in his class has lost a tooth and I'm sure these little guys compare notes on the toothfairy, santa etc. Thank goodnes the cost of baby teeth hasn't gone up to $10...have to spend waaay more time on mylot to cover all 20 some teeth. lol

If you got a dollar, you were among the few that ever got paid so much. I think a quarter or two is about right. And a note from the tooth fairy is a plus. I know one lady that includes a picture of the fairy along with the note.

I was an only child so perhaps I was overpaid lol. The picture of the "tooth fairy" is a great idea too...thanks.

I was going to tell you we put a 'twoonie' under our daughter's pillow when she loses her tooth, but then you prolly don't know what that is...lol (I am Canadian) and a twoonie represents $2- either that or a dollar...that seems to be about right I would think...(Kids do loose a fair amount of teeth, so you don't want to over price yourself lol!!)

We have six kids, the first tooth we have always tried to make special, my kids usually get a ten dollar bill for the first one, and then after that, we usually give them a dollar or two. But that first one was always special so they got more.

I'm not sure if read all the posts but you know, I spend time pondering how much money to put under my sons pillow and it was the note the toothfairy left that really excited him (don't get wrong, he was very pleased with the cash too). I dont know how old your children are but I know my five year old thought it was pretty neat.

LOL. Inflation ! Thats how much I had originally planned to pay. After posting this discussion I decided to keep the bar low, that way I could increase with age. I was amazed, most people posted the advice of a buck or two, I'm possitive I get a dollar and that would have been hmmmmm...22 years ago maybe.

On the way home from school my little lad saw a beautiful shiny yellow beatle car (Volkswagen). Im going to buy that car he said. Oh and how are you going to pay for it then. Im going to have all my teeth taken out and the tooth fairy will pay. So I think expectations are pretty high on the value of milk teeth.!!!!

Start small, two loonies look like more than a toonie and increase with each tooth. Just an idea ?!?

I would leave $1, .25 can barely buy a candy bar on sale, I mean it costs .79 for one off of sale.

a quarter to fifty cents in my corner of the world hehe. They arent worth a whole lot to us, but the loosing is fun. Also the toothfairy likes to leave notes for the kids about keeping their teeth clean/ congratualting them for loosing ect. The kids love it!
