Would this be cheating?

I have noticed a few people with 500+ posts going around in the discussions without responses board find discussions written by people with under 100 posts and posting a guide to this site. It has neither anything to do with the subject nor personalized for the person. It's the exact same 5 or 6 paragraph guide to the site to get better earnings. I think this is rather unfair. They just copy and paste the same 5 paragraph guide into tons and tons of topics. They would be getting paid for a long quality post many many times, and they are increasing there post count. What do you guys think about this? Is it unfair? If it's not unfair why wouldn't everyone do it?

Hello DocterDew...... It definately is cheating. Mylot's policy is that you should not: 1....post identical posts. 2....cut and copy without adding something of your own. 3....comment off the main topic of the discussion. 4....use someone elses post to draw attention to another that is not on topic. These are exactly some of the things that mylot requests that we report. Not reporting the things that should be is NOT following mylots policies. They need, and request our help weeding out the garbage. No one can see who reports anything so there is no need to fear repercussions. Check the do's and don'ts list to see for yourself. Tom

Hi folks..... One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes it can take awhile for the mylot staff to get caught up. Consider that......there are about 75,000 members multiplied by 100's if not 1000's of topics.....that's how many discussions a day........or weekly ???? Tom

Thank you for this. Best response so far. I really wasn't 100% sure on what can be reported as I've forgotten, and never known exactly what should be reported. Thanks for clearing this up, and adding much more to this discussion.

Yes I went back and found the guy and reported 2 of his posts like this. That way they see both of them and see what he is doing. Thank you for that though.

For me this is a way to keep my creativity sharp by reading posts and having to come up with posts myself. I don't really care about the money because it is not like I can quit my day job. Cheating to earn a few extra bucks may be cool for some, but I'm just not seeing the point. If you want to be here you should be here for the friends and the outlet given to you by this site. That is the reason why we shouldn't all just cut and paste. It takes away the fun and the enjoyment of the site and turns it into one of those sites where the more you post in other forums outside the site the more 'cool' points you get. Do what works for you and forget about those posts and those people.

True, I don't want to be like them, and I want my rating to be high. Resorting to this would just make my opinion less highly thought of, and my star go down. Thank you for that post.

I anwer people when they ask a question but never thought that anyone would be copying and pasting the answer from the guide . I don't see that they will really get paid for this as when MyLot goes through all the responses they would see that they didn't actually type it themselves . People complain everyday about the money they lost and I beleive this is part of why they do lose money . When they get caught doing something they shouldn't be doing they lose the money for their answer . So I wouldn't worry to much about them as they are cheating and cheaters always get caught .

I think they may have initially written it but they copy and paste this exact same one into many many threads. There are a few people that do this all with there own guides. So it's not copying another just spamming up the boards and getting money out of it :-/

This is really unfair. I hope someone like this gets reported. I noticed another user who would only answer discussions where noone had replied.. The questions/discussions would be about computers.. and she would answer the discussion about plastering walls. It is all very frustrating.

Well it's not so much the fact that nobodys replied yet, that's just where I've noticed they go through to get the new users. It's that they spam up our boards over and over yet are probably making money off of it.

I think they pick discussions that noone has responded to..so that they won't get caught. If noone sees what they are doing they are less likely to have someone report them.

I kinda think it is cheating. But at the same time, what is one to do...I mean, if they initially wrote it in the first place then I guess what can you say...they're answering the question.

They aren't answering the questions though. They are posting this guide in things about baseball, about movies, and jokes. They are putting it everywhere that it doesn't have anything to do with the topic. Spamming....

Juliemaire is right upto some extent. But there are two sides for each and every one I mean positive and negetive sides. The best we can do is let My lot to take this issue. My lot should be informed about the cheating.

What is not fair is not fair! There is no question about that. What ever you have noticed is going on here then it is not fair. It is up to those who are responsible for such posting! They must understand that what they are doing has no significance. I think that here every one is responsible for posting the things and no none should use responsiblity this way!

I think it is very unfair since the comment that they did is repeated already and the post have no connection to the topic too. It is very useless and they shouldn't respond at all because they are not contributing to the discussion.

To me that would be cheating very much so. The postings should come from the heart or something you want answered not just some way to make some money. Some of the discussions are really dumb just so can start one. I think about mine before I do any. Haven't done to many yet working on it.

i had no clue or even a slightest of thoughts about this going on.... i mean if at all this is taking place mylot officials have to figure a plan to form some kinda of a code to get rid of these people........ its TOTALLY unfair ........ but my question is if there are postingthe same responces for different topics ..... wont they get a negative for that ...... wont they be paid less.......

I think that such a practice is very unfair, and could be construed as cheating. These members with over 500 posts are at a clear advantage, and are exploiting their opportunity, which is very unjust, in my opinion. Additionally, it doesn't really contribute any further content to the community, and thus could be rendered useless. With that being said, I have a few culprits in mind, and I believe you and I may have the same ideas as to who these people are...

I totally agree it's cheating. I'd be totally comfortable with reporting that and/or giving a - for that post. They definitely shouldn't be rewarded for posting something that is not related to the discussion, and is copied across multiple posts. I don't know about giving a !, however. Perhaps my interpretation of a ! is where a member makes a personal attack, or is abusive. Does spamming fall under this category?

Yes I think it is unfair. Because no one would have the right answer to any question or discussion. I think it is wrong because it is saying the same things. And question on here are not always going to be the same or similiar to the other question. So yeah if i could do it then maybe i would be rich but I do not do that so it is unfair to other people with lower discussion.

I have noticed a few of these, as well. If the response is off-topic (which usually is the case), you can at the very LEAST give it a minus rating. However, any time it is the exact SAME response that appears over and over again, it could probably pass as a Terms of Service violation, as well. It's not EXACTLY "posting the same discussion multiple times," but it does sort of fit the guideline of "copying and pasting without adding anything of your own." Beyond just using the "!" to report it, you might gather the URLs of a number of these and send myLot an actual email describing the problem. No matter how you turn it, this kind of activity certainly goes against the intent of the community, and hurts other members by creating "garbage" discussions.
