What baby/children's items did you find to be a waste of money?

When I found out I was pregnant I was constantly shopping for baby things. One of the things I thought was so important, I hardly ever use... The Diaper Disposal. Works great until it's time to change the bag, all the smell gets trapped in there, so when I go to change the bag I just about hurl. Now I just use my kitchen garbage because it gets changed more often.

There are two things that I never bought and I used to think other women were silly for buying. One was the wipes warmer - I just didn't see the point. I know the wipes can be a little cold sometimes but they spend a very little amount of time on the tush. Second is the chaging tables. I have always found it easier to just plop down where you are at in the house and change the baby on the floo. Plus you don't have the fear of them falling.

I agree with the wipes warmer. I thought it was silly too. The only time I worry about the temp of them is when we've been outside. As for the changing table. My dad insisted on buying us one, I rarely use it. Most often he gets changed on the living room floor or in his crib. It's great for the extra storage though!

I loved my Diaper Disposal. The one I had used a roll of plastic grocery bag like material that was scented, and when you placed the diaper inside, you just twisted the top a few times and it sealed the diaper. Best of all when it came to emptying it, there was no smell. I think the most useless thing was the baby moses basket. I bought one brand new and I used it for a total of 4 months for all three kids. It just wasn't worth the money.

I loved my diaper genie but when I used up all the bags I couldn't find more that would fit in it so I never did get to use it again . Another thing I found useless was the tons and tons of baby lotions and baby powder that everyone tends to use as I am still trying to get rid of all that I had recieved from having my children , you use so little of it that one bottle of each is really enough . Other then that I think I used everything I bought or that someone else got for me with my little one's .

I agree about the Diaper Genie. I used it and liked it, until I ran out of bags and didn't have money to get more. I ended up getting in the habit of tossing the diapers in my kitchen garbage, since that goes out every day or 2 at the minimum. We had an infant chest carrier, because DH used one with SS15 (when he was a baby!) and loved it. DS just grew too quickly and was so heavy to carry in it, it hurt my back. We also got a vibrating bouncer seat, but didn't use it much. We'd forget that the vibrate was on and the batteries would die, and DS never moved enough in it to get it to bounce. It was easier to just set him in his car seat. We also had a Swaddling blanket that was supposed to wrap him up nice and tight, but he'd flail when we tried to use it, and never even got him into it.

I never used the carrier much either, and now he's pretty much too heavy for it. And same deal with the swaddling. He wouldn't let me swaddle him since he was about a week old. He's always wanted his arms free to hold my hands or grab my face.

I agree. The Diaper Genie is a waster of money. I never used mine. Another waste-- the changing table. I purchased a lovely one and we mostly used it for piling junk on- I never used it to change my kid's diapers.

All kids are different with my daughter...the swing was a life saver. But with my son it collected dust.with both my kids i realized they much rather play woth the box it came in then the product itself.Inever bought a diaper disposal.this is what i bought both times.....crib(of course),swing, bouncer, cloths, diaperbag, diapers, wipes, babychanging and bath products and a few toys.Alot of people get so excited and go crazy on things. But i just bought the essentials and i was fine.

When my wife was pregnant with our son, and even for a long time after, we didn't buy much in the way of things like that. We didn't feel it was necessary to have a diaper changing table, when we had a big basket with everything in it, and could lay a blanket on the floor. No need for a Diaper Genie, cause i'm with you, the smell is insanely bad. we actually didn't even have to use pacifiers so we were lucky in that instance. I just think it's a baby paraphernalia mania. Plus we were flat broke and saved our money for the stuff that really counted like diapers and clothes for the little fart that grows so fast. Now, the things i consider necessary like high chairs, baby swings, learning toys, and books we bought. But nothing crazy. Thank goodness we've got more money now, because the older they get, the more expensive the toys are.

With my daughter, she never touched her walker. I know lots of babies love their walker but not mine. I put her there a few times but she will keep on screaming. She just love to pull herself up and walk holding the walk. She was walking already before she turned 1. The second item were the baby bottles we got as gifts. There were plenty of them but she only likes the Playtex with filler and refuse to use the other bottles. We end up donating them.

Baby shoes... the ones that you put on just to "complete the outfit", before they could actually walk. They always fell off or were kicked off.

For me nothing i bought is wasted.I make it a point that whatever i bought for my baby has been used.Barely used clothes if it doesnt fit to him anymore i give it away to my other nephews.I collect the toys i bought for him and if he doesnt want to play with them anymore i display them in bookshelves. The baby cribs, walker, stroller and other stuffed i bought when my baby doesnt need them anymore i asked anybody i know like my friends, relatives having a baby to buy it from me in a much cheaper price.

Oh, the baby stuff! I used my crib, swing, diapers, clothes (but I ended up throwing a lot of clothes away unused or barely used because my daughter grew so quickly), blankets, etc. I got a bunch of baby wipes from friends and family only to have my daughter be allergic to them. I practically had to take stock in paper towels. lol I tended not to get too caught up in the moment of the baby event, but it's a live and learn thing, I think.
