i like maths very much , it gives us a challenge and the satisfaction you get after solving a question correctly is amazing, nothing else can fill in that place

I'm dyslexic, so math has never been one of my favorite subjects. I have difficulty determining what the order of operations are, remembering what formulas to use with word problems and where the signs go. When it's all in front of me, I'm okay . . . when I'm pulling information from my memory, it's a frustrating jumbled mess.

Hi Edward,
First of all I would like to put here that you are not supposed to surveys on MYLOT. It is against mylot guidelines. So, your discussion may be deleted anytime.
Still, if its not deleted, here is my answer:
I like maths. Though its tough, its an interesting subject. I like solving maths calculations.
Best of luck!

I love math. Although my major is computer science but I still likes math. I probably should major on math. But it's too late now. Believe it or not I sort of don't like problem solving questions. I like best the solving equation for x,y stuff like that.

I would have to say I do not like math. Any form. And my grades refelected it when in school.
Strange part of it is I programmed computers most of my life and loved it. Hmmmm.

I was average, or below average in mathematics in elementry school. Finally in middle school I was introduced to algebra, and everything they tried to teach me in mathematics made sense.
For example, figuring percentages, the way it was taught in schools there were three different methods that had to be remembered. To find the percentage, the part amount has to be divided by the whole amount. To find the part amount, you have to multiply the whole amount by the percentage. To find the whole amount, you have divide the part amount by the percentage.
Finally they taught me algebra. One formula was all one need to know, percentage = part amount / whole amount. Know two values, you can find the third. I made A's ever since.
Unfortunately my step-father was an army sergeant, so with the school shuffling I ended up taking intermediate algebra at least three times. No I'm not super smart, they just keep sending me back to basically the same class school after school. I begged them at my last high school to test me, but they didn't want to take the time.
Oh well.
I tried to teach myself calculus but I suppose I need a structured environment to do some serious study in that field. I find myself distracted to easily.

well, calculus is a bit strange but once u learned algebra and trigonometry, calculus will be as easy as 1,2,3....!!!! there is no such below average or average...it just depend upon the interest of the learner. i myself got a failing grades in math way back in elementary years but when i was in high school, i am the school representative for math quiz bees......!!!:P

Hi, I love Math. In fact, I'm a Mathematics teacher in a secondary school. In my country, secondary school is similar to High School, I guess. I know teaching this subject is very very difficult but sometimes I do need the challenge. Some of my students love Math and yet they sometimes make silly mistakes. Some do love Math but don't know how to do the right techniques. Some hate Math but still want to past this subject as its very important in our country.
For me, I love teaching a very simple/basic topics like percentages, expansions, integers.
And I hate word problems where I have to make my students understand the english. For your info, english is a foreign language for us but we still teach Math, Geography, History, Commercial Studies, Computer Studies, and so on in English Language.
