we had no concept of "nation" before the Spanish era... Let's just try to find out what makes us unique and what separeates us from the rest of the world... how do you know someone is a Filipino without asking? how do you know that you really are one?

we are unique because this is the only nation on earth that has no origin.our country is only an assimilation of different races on earth.Philippines became the melting pot for the east and west.that's why our language has different components from different languages.there's no record in history claiming that we came from a certain race.
the Muslims of Sarawak and Borneo were the first inhabitants of this country, that's why some of them have relatives in Mindanao.they established baranggays or sultanate community to accommodate large group of people. So this country is an Islamic country before the Spaniards came.there are accounts in the history that the last caliphate of mecca in the personality of ABU BAKR came here to propagate Islam..how can i know that someone is a Filipino??constitutionally,a Filipino must be born in the Philippines..that's simple right?

In my own opinion, Filipino is a filipino because of the following:
1. You smile to someone you even don't know.
2. You greet everyone.
3. You throw a party even if you don't have enough budget.
4. You eat our famous exotic food "balot"
5. You call your grandparents "inang, tatang"
6. You love SOP operas.
7. You love helping without expecting for a pay. We call it bayanihan in Filipino term.
8. Your ancestors are Catholics.
And the most important Filipino trait that makes us Unique to anyone is:
HOSPITALITY, trait displayed by every Filipino, makes these people legendary in Southeast Asia. Seldom can you find such hospitable people who enjoy the company of their Western visitors.
