My husband just came home with Cymbalta last night. Neither one of us has ever taken it before. He is being presribed it for nerve pain, one 30mg capsule at bedtime. He took it last night and this morning he was very nausous and vomiting. I would like to know your experiences on taking Cymbalta. I have read the patient info and visited the website. I want to hear from people who have taken it or had friends/relatives that have taken it. If you experienced the same problems as my husband, did they go away or did you have to stop the medication. Thanks for all your help!

My husband also took Cymbalta, and he had to stop taking it. Not only did he got the nausea, the medicine also made him very depressed.
I can't say for sure that your husband will also continue to have problems with it, but I will say he should probably tell his doctor.

Approximately 2 weeks ago I started taking Cymbalta. I was so happy that finally I was taking a medication that made me feel like my old self. Depression, etc.. went away. I couldn't believe it. However, within 5 days I had gained 10 pounds. (wow) My chest felt funny and things all of sudden weren't right. PLEASE call your doctor because it is very important that the doctor knows what is going on. There are other meds the doctor will prescrib. Make sure he explains all of symptoms. My doctor took me off right away and started on another medication that has helped me. I was so disappointed because I have seen others that have no problems with this medication. I just knew it was going to change my life. Again, your husband doesn't have to suffer with that medication. Call doctor. Also, I was taking Lexapro and when first started taking it I was aware of side effects. For example: headaches, stomach ache, etc.. but doctor told me to wait for about one week and it would go away. Yet, with Cymbalta I told same doctor side effects and she immediately took me off. Here is to better health for your husband.

I took Cymbalta for the first time last night (30 mg capsule). I have been tried on approximately 16 different antidepressants. I spent the entire night wide awake, feeling like I was speeding, vomiting, and very watery diarrhea. That was my experience. Won't take that one again. Onward to the next one. I have been known to stick out side effects for a very long time (2-3 months) but with this one (Cymbalta) I don't even want to look at the capsule again.

My Mom doesn't have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia but her rheumatologist put her on it three days ago for arthritis pain. She took one tablet in the morning and came down with a bad headache within a few hours, then nausea. She couldn't eat lunch but was able to eat a bowl of cereal for supper and then became severely ill with dry heaves, vomiting bile (you said descriptive) for the next 30 hours. I went to her home and took a blood pressure laying down (it was fine) and then tried to have her stand for one to see if it was her blood pressure dropping as I suspected someone would say "Oh, you probably have the flu." She couldn't stand long enough for me to get the cuff on her, let alone have her blood pressure taken. I had to call 911 for her. She was given fluids, pain medication for her severe headache and zofran. She had been given promethazine on day two by her family doctor but that had no effect on the vomiting. She also started having diarrhea about once an hour 36 hours after having taken the cymbalta. It's been approximately 60 hours since she took the first tablet. She has been able to eat, just a little soup without vomiting, still has a headache but milder and still has some nausea. Every person's body is different. Just because a half-life of a medication is a specific number of hours, doesn't mean it's going to clear your body that quickly. That's when HALF of the medicine is supposed to clear the average person's body...how efficient your kidneys or liver is at metabolizing (breaking down) the medicine will effect how long it stays in your system. If you have any kidney or liver problems, it may be longer for you to get rid of it. The ambulance attendant stated she had the flu and initially the ED doctor did as well. The ED doctor changed his mind after my Mom spent the night in the ED and told her NOT to take another Cymbalta tablet.
