if cat's saliva is the reason why people are allergic to them...

then what would happen if you have a cat without hair. because the main cause of allergy is the dander right? it is when the saliva of the cat dries up and gathers on their fur... so would that mean no fur, no dander, no saliva, no allergy?

What most people are allergic to is a protein compound that is actually produced by the cat. There are anti-allergy cats you can buy (for several thousand dollars) who do not make this protein and therefore people who are allergic to cats are not allergic to them. Although, some people may also be allergic to the dander and pet hair.

Sorry. Aurone is quite right, and I probably should have mentioned that in my post, although I was working more on the mechanics of the saliva. Proteins have been positively identified as major allergens, and generate some of the worst, most dangerous, reactions.

oh, the price you have to pay just to stay healthy and be with your cat, but if people are not allergic to cats, then garfield would have not came to be.

I think you might be right about that. It would seem to make sense that if the cat didn't have to clean itself there would be no dander. But have you ever seen those hairless cats? Ugly to me.

yeah same here.. i still prefer the hairy fluffy ones... but i try to bathe them myself so they would not accumulate dander coz my mom's quite allergic to them.
