What would you do if you were addicted to the Internet?

Yup, that's the question. I've been online for too many hours a day until my mom decided to limit my time to only around 3 hours a day! I mean, I can't really do much in 3 hours. There's so much to do online, like, checking all my e-mails and deleting them so they won't be overloaded, blogging, posting in myLot, and lots of other fun stuff! Yeah, I know that I shouldn't centre my whole life around the Internet. But, it's really fun to be online. What do you think, huh?

Is there a life other than the internet? Just because I spend about 23 hr a day on it does not mean I am addicted, right? HAR HAR HAR.

Agreed!!lol As for the solution,if I am addicted to internet and want to move away ,then I'd have to fall in love offline, lol. It's best if it's with a girl who hates net. That could very well keep me away from internet forever, lol. However, what I am not accounting for is that 'love' could then become the centre of my life and end up being a bigger problem than the net, lol.Befriending the tigress to get away from the wolf :-P

There are so many fun things to do online, not just posting here in mylot, which I am happy to say is in my top 10 sites, but it is probably the 8th or 9th that I visit each day. I run a small online business that sells stickers, I work with a couple of others and the internet is essential for marketing, research, and ordering product to sell.
Yes the internet is addicting, all the music, videos, and networking sites available make it so interesting....I just have to be online.

Hmm. i think i am addicted to the internet myself, since i have no work now and im just staying at home, thats why im looking for means of earning while im staying at home and unemployed- but i was once an online game addict- i spent like 8 hrs just playing the game- and whats worse was that i was just renting out computers at the time! so i really spend a lot of money just to go online. what stopped me from this addiction was when i saw all my used top up cards used for my online gaming- when i saw how much it all cost me- i was like... I could buy a TV with this much money! i suddenly realized it was a very expensive lifestyle for me and i dont get to earn anything in return- so even if it was a little late- i just forced myself to stop playing for a while, and it did save me a lot. Now that i have my own internet connection at home- i still play a little but my priority now is how to earn money from the internet. Hence- here i am! =)

I have no work now too, that's why I'm free and not sure what else to do. That's why I'm on the Internet and trying to earn some money. But my mom thinks I'm wasting time on the Internet chatting with friends, which I rarely do. I'm mostly blogging and in myLot and that takes up a lot of my time.
Yeah, playing games is kind of expensive. Anyway, thanks for the response.

I know it's fun but there should be a limit to everything that you do. Your mom is right in limiting your time to 3 hours. Try to do the best you can in 3 hours and then try spending time in your other activities which give you as much pleasure as internet.

Yes, you are absolutely right that there should be a limit for everything and Internet is one important thing. I'll try to do as much as I can in those hours. Thanks.

yaa,we all eat for our life so it doesnt mean that we addicted to eat..thats all i think like this it is not adictable thing but obviously there should be 'some' limit, but again for every thing there should be some limit so dont worry..do that what ur brain tells u.if u think this is adictable then think on that and if u think it is not soooo serious that u r think then enjoy it....thats alll .I THINK LIKE THIS...UUUUU??????

But we eat to live. Well, I'm not that desperate though. I can live without the Internet but certainly not without food. Food is life! Haha!

Hiiii,,,Yaaah what you tell is true...normally this is a habit for a lot software engineers;-)
Normally I spend my whole day in internet surfing and working together...normally what is needed to clarify our doubts is got in internet.so surfing and working is like part and parcel...not only that, now even attending to the discussions is also my hobby...I like to keep chit chatting with all....
I bielive untill unless my work is not affected it doens't matter:-)

I don't think only software engineers are addicted to the net. Lots of other people with other kinds of professions can easily be addicted! Haha!
Yeah, the Internet should not affect our work or anything else that should be our priority.

This is like dealing your disease with acupuncture therapy.
I mean for sacrifising one hobby or an addiction as you called it, you have to go for something equally intresting.
Then only you can find some success in coming out of it.
So as you are addicted on to the "internet", You either have to go on to some vacation or a pleasent tour, a place which would be equally intresting so as to forget the previous intrest, provided you should not have any access to computer or any kind of internet facility over to your tourist place.
If possible even forget your mobile too.
Just keep a trace about your place and some reference phone number to contact your friends in emergencies, that's all.
If you can manage this for a month or two you can sure come out of this internet business.

To some people the internet IS their job or part of it. I wouldnt count them in addiction.
Heck though I'm addicted to the net. To mylot, livejournal, amazon, myspace, etc. I cant get enough of it and spend several hours a day on it. I LOVE IT!
3hrs is nothing. If you post in a row 25 comments it will take at least 3hrs and thats if you do NOTHING else! So yeah! :)

I wished that the Internet really is part of my job, then I'd have an excuse to use it as long as I want! Wouldn't everyone's wish be like that too???

Plan your activities online before you actually start doing them. The computer and the internet provides lots of distractions that will deviate you away from the work that you should be focusing on. So you should plan and then stick closely to it.

Well, usually I do plan what I want to do when I'm online. But, the Internet has its own way of luring me away from doing what I want. Okay, so I should not blame the Internt but myself right? For being allowed to get lured away!

If I had that "problem"..I would spend sometime reasoning about adictions in general. I personally don't like that at all and I have some kind of inner "protection"against them. I give you some of the reason : they reduce other possibility and potenciality you might develop, they cause routine a lot, they reduce experimentation and differenciation of experience....Anyway, to be addicted to the internet is a good addiction if compared to other...Is an active thing, inventive, invulving, varied...A kind of microcusmus. Anyway, is still an addiction. just, try to be more selective in what you do on the internet

Well, you do try to make this addiction sound nice, you do! Haha! But, I think it's kind of serious and those addicted really do have to try to overcome it.

I am not sure that using the internet a lot is as big of a problem as everyone thinks. I too am 'addicted' if you want to call it that... meaning it would be extremely difficult to stop using it. But, is it really an addiction? Are you addicted to air conditioning? It isn't a necessity. But, just about anyone would tell you they wouldn't give it up. Is that bad? No. The internet has a lot of valuable and rewarding information. On sites like this we can improve our social skills and knowledge of life and our world. I think the people who call us addicts and play it up to be a bad thing just don't understand the big picture.

Hmm, I don't think we can compare the Internet with the air conditioner. Because at we can do various things with the air-cond on. Yes, we can improve on our knowledge of life and the world but I don't think it can improve our social skills. Meeting real people can really improve our social skills.
