Your interests only mean something when another human user look at your page and decide if they want to be friends with you. So I would say - just go ahead and create your own categories. If someone reads your profile page, they will understand you anyway. It is the tagging that is more important - make sure you tag your discussions accordingly so that like-minded people can find your posts amidst many others. Hope this helps. ;-)
