I am looking to find some good ideas to retain the heat in my rented home- bearing in mind I cant do anything structurally and dont want to spend too much money either. Any good ideas out there? We have double glazing and gas central heating.

Plastic sheeting on the windows will help, and towels next to the doors to help keep the drafts out. Silcon works too and you can pull it away from the surface easliy.

Well, being that it's a rented home makes it a little harder. Because if the house needs additional insulation to retain warmth, that would appear to be the owners call. And you know how that goes.
Other than that, just make sure the heating unit is working efficiently, and take care of the obvious such as, window and door drafts and the such. Good Luck.
