I know the scene you mean but it seemed the same to me. It could be though you remember it as being more graphic because of how it effected you at the time. The mind has been known to do that. It's like with the movie Psycho if you ask people what color the shower curtain is they will often come back with blue or something similar. The movie is in black and white, no color but the scene is so powerful the mind remembers things differently.

, I loved that film too, the reason being I live in Stirling in Central Scotland ( braveheart country ) I live on the actual battlefield, the battle of Bannockburn 13 14, The country is beautiful, I can see the Wallace Monument from my house, it is only 1 mile away, . xx
