I know this is a moral and personal issue and the answer can only be decided for yourself, but I'll raise a similar question: is it justifiable for a lion to kill and eat an antilope in the jungle? Why is it, or why is it not?
Killing for sustenance is simply a part of nature. We might someday rise over it - in time, science will find better ways of sustenance - but for now, I personally wouldn't sweat much over it.

humans do not require to eat meat for their sustainance they can very well sustain themselves with vegetarian food. eating meat is not a sustainance issue. its more of leisure luxury for our tongue.
in case of lion and antilope its the question of sustainance

Early man was designed to eat meat more then vegetables. They could not plant and harvest but had to forage and hunt. They would eat what they could find, whether it was vegetable or meat. The body was designed for it from the teeth on downwards. It has also been shown that hunters or fighters through out history who ate meet were stronger and bigger. That's why Samuri's were given meet even when it was scarce, they knew they needed their warriors to be physically stronger then the enemy.
Eating meat is more then just enjoyment of the tongue. Eating meat does give nutrients and especially protien for the body. You decide to get it from beans while others get it from meat. That is their choice. Either way though eating of something is taking from the earth. It's part of how life is. We take from it and eventually our bodies go back into the earth.

I think our bodies were made to eat meet. Look at our teeth. We have grinding and ripping teeth. One for plants and one for animals. We can also digest meet pretty easily so we must be made to eat it.

Gorillas do also eat meat. Not all ape animals eat just vegitables. So if we did evolve from apes then it makes sense that we'd eat similar objects.

The human body can, generally speaking, eat both meat and vegs.
And either way is going to kill living beings, and if you talk in numbers, a vegetarian is responsable for the killing of a lot more of living beings than a omnivore. How many inocent plants that were unable to move and defend themselves did you killed or was responsable for the killing when you were eating your vegetarian meals?

you need not kill the entire plant to have vegetarian food. you can pluck only a few leaves or fruits and the plant can grow again ;in fact the plucking of fruits helps in distributing the seeds elsewhere and the species spreads to other areas.
but in case of animals you have to kill it entirely which is much more cruel

life lives by eating life
this is what is happening, but i am trying to quetion whether it is really necessary that life should live (only) by eating other life
i am trying to question whether as humans we can change the above statement.
can we say that "life does not necessarily have to live "ONLY" by eating other life
can we not live without killing the entire plant

Absolutely agreed on that point
but what about the luxury and leisures of the tongue of the so called "first world countries"
there are some of them who wont even eat the non veg dish served at them just because the garnishing was not done properly or any such silly reasons.
what about the daily food wastages that happen in the so called "first world countries"
Do they really value food?
Do they have any concerns for such people who are dying out of hunger and hiv

our teeth as they are today could be a outcome of our highly adaptable nature

Humans came about because of evolution.
Other than cockroaches, we are just about the more adaptable creatures living in this planet. So our bodies will just adapt to any food we will choose to eat.
Have you come across that example where people are eating metal? And another one eating glass as their regular "food"?
Well, they are all still alive and the body just adapts! (As disgusting as it might sound) :P

The answer to your question would depend on the religion of the person.
For me personally, I am inclined to feel that killing another for food is somewhat wrong. Am I really worth its sacrifice? Who am I really? I can't be sure I am that deserving.. but then away, I have been brought up with an omnivore kinda of diet so it's quite hard for me to ween off meat. And the crucial thing is, I don't eat vegetables (since young, I just can't make myself like them)... so if I stop eating meat (or fish for that matter) and I don't eat vegetables... what do I eat? :P
