Insomnia is very common in adults. Most people will experience insomnia in their lives but their sleep patterns will naturally go back to normal. For others, the problem can become chronic. Here are a few suggestions from a chronic insomniac that had to relearn how to sleep (me!):
1. Make sure you go to bed and wake up same time every day - don't deviate your sleep pattern.
2. Avoid all caffeine after 3 pm. That includes coffee, tea, coca cola and any beverages that contain caffeine.
3. Be sure to do a 30 minute cardio-vascular exercise very day (consult your doctor if you have health issues first!)
4. Try relaxation therapy - this can be as simple as closing your eyes and focusing on taking very deep breathes, hold in the breath for 30 to 45 seconds and then let it out entirely. You will be surprised how relaxed you will feel.
5. Try having a glass of warm milk before bed - milk contains tryptophan - a known substance that helps you sleep.
6. Make sure to devoid yourself of all stimulation before bed - for example - don't watch violent tv programs or spend too many hours on the computer. Try reading a book instead.
7. Make sure your sleeping area (bed) is comfortable for your back, hips, and neck. Same goes for your pillow. Invest in a new mattress and pillows if necessary - remember your sleep is worth it!
Most people suffer from insomnia because of stress and current problems that are overwhelming. Try not to stress out additionally about your inability to sleep. The highest likelihood is that the insomnia will run its course and you will go back to a normal sleep pattern in no time.

Hi bezzamae, I used to have insomnia too. I took Vitamin B complex with valerian roots. It works well on me and I slept like a baby. Valerian roots should taken at a minimal dosage only. You can ask some of the health stores around your area to explain to you more. Hope this info help. :)

I had the same problem before. You can try this. put 2 tsp of honey in a glass of water and drink it before going to bed. it works for me.
