Brag a little....What was your best thrift/second-hand/Consignment store find?

I love browsing through thrift/second-hand/consignment stores. I've gotten some really good finds. I think my two favorites were a brand new pair of J.Crew pants...with the tags still on, and a big ol' pink princess costume dress! I actually wore the princess dress to a Mardi Gras party recently, and I wear the J.Crew pants to work all the time. What are your favorite or best thrift/second-hand/consignment store finds?

I found a Brian Froud, Goblins of the Labyrinth book that I bought for £1 and it turned out to be worth about £300. I'd never sell it though!

I love the Garment District. One time, went there and founf four skirts and two awesome t-shirts for less than ten dollars. This was years ago and I still where the clothes I bought. The skirts were the best find though. I got one sexy velvet red skirt and two really expensive, beautiful, Italian wool skirts. One was marked down from $140 and the other for $300. I got evrything for under $10!!! I also used to love this place in Kenmore Sq. It was on the top floor of one of those apartment buildings where the new Commonwealth Hotel is now. I was so bummed when Boston University bought out that whole block just to put up that stupid hotel. I lost one of my favorite thrisft stores so that more rich people can get pricey hotel rooms in the city.

I do a lot of shopping at these stores for resale purposes in my flea market booth. One of my most recent buys was really, really good! I found a hand painted, signed Fenton glass basket...and I only paid 3.99 for it. Retailed out, based on antique and collectibles guides...it is selling for 129.99!!! I'm way excited over that one!

Best finds in a thrift store were both in one day...I was looking for a costume for a Halloween party and in amongst the sort of bags and "black" items ( for witch costumes, vampire, etc) was this little black bag...it was paired up with a shawl of sorts and I just happened to pull it out to look at the shawl...the bag seemed to be a nice fabric and as I looked closer and began to remove the "stickers" that someone had decorated it with I was shocked to see it was a Kate Spade bag...I believed it must be a knock off..but the asking price was $1.25 and the stickers were peeling off easily...I purchased it and went on my way...Next stop..a Goodwill shop where I quickly ran went through a group of sweaters and pullover type shirts...a heathery grey realy soft v neck sweater caught my eye and as I pulled it out I could see it still had tags on it from Nordstrom's( big in the states)..and had originally been $245.00...It was exactly my size and was 100% cashmere...no stains, holes, perfect!!! I paid $5.00 for it ...When I got home that day I had no costume...but I took the purse to Nordstrom's and they showed me the numbers inside on a small tag that can be traced for authenticity..or so they said...I since had a Kate Spade representative look at it and tell me it's not a knock off...but an original that would normally sell for $460...What a deal!!!! The downside of course was that it was LAST YEARS...so I've had to get over that I'm carrying a bag that is from last season..LOL...I really love it..and would have even if it was a knock off..but it isn't and it's my great thrift store find!!!! Along with my cashmere sweater and some great jeans I found on sale...my entire outfit was under $10...and it still gets lots of compliments!!! In the jewelry department I found a pair of clip on Chanel earrings for $1.00...probably 10 years ago..and they are still in great shape and people comment on them when I wear them...they too are the real thing...Love those thrift shop deals!!!!!

I get quite a lot of clothes for my 8 month old from second hand stores, but I would have to say my best find was an easy bake oven I purchased for her for when she gets older. I couldn't believe I got it for 50 cents!

I found a complete 5 piece bedroom set for $10!!!! It is in great shape but a little warping on the dresser. I just put a doily on top of that and you can't see it anyway. The I found out my sister paid thousands for the exact same set and she never did get the nightstand. I am so pleased with that purchase!

My best find at a thrift store was a pair of SAS shoes for a quarter! They were discounted to get rid of them, but they weren't in bad shape and I wore them for two years. I've found other great deals, but that was the cheapest by far.

Lift chair - green chair
I found on Freecycle.com a used handicapped recliner lift chair (new at $500.00+) for FREE. It's in wonderful condition and works like a charm I've been needing one for such a long time, but no insurance covers these. Now I can transfer from my wheelchair to it and back again without yelling for help. Plus its so comfortable!

the only stores my parents go to, to get me clothes are thrift stores. the only 2 stores we go to are "dakota boys ranch" a thrift store, and "cheap foods" for our grocery shopping. we find everything great there. one time my friend took me to the mall, and we saw a pair of pants for 20 dollars! whoa! and my parents only have to pay 3 dollars for a pair of pants for me! thrift stores are the best.

One of my best finds would be purely for sentimental reasons The Concert for Bangla Desh. I had tapes when I was young and listened almost every day to them but for some reason they got lost. So last year I found the 3 vinyls not in their box but wiht the photo booklet for a mere $1. The joy of listening again to that music means more than finding a gold ring for 50 cents.

Ten years ago I purchased a green leather jacket from Value Village of seven dollars. That thing is still my favorite article of clothing to this day and every time I wear it out I get tons of compliments on it. Bonus! No one has one even similar where I live.

We buy a lot of children's clothes for our son at thrift stores. And it looks great on him. No one thinks he dresses poor. We also bought a kitchen supply, and wooden clothes liner where you hang them up to dry.

In Singapore, we don't have many of these thrift/second-hand/consignment stores you mentioned. The closest we came to is Cash Converters which is a place where people try to sell their old stuffs - which other people will browse to buy. I did see another small shop packed with goods and it claims to sell all things Russians. :P Other than these, it would be the not so rare yet still quite rare flea markets. Oh yes, there is one "lane" dedicated to these old stuffs.. manned by some "seniors" I think. I am never really one for these "old items" so I typically give such a miss.

My very best find was actually at a clearence store. Bell's Clearence. I got a linen skirt that was lined for a total of 80 cents. That was my very best find. My second would be a beautiful pink formal skirt and blouse out fit. It was satin and really looked nice on me. I got that at Goodwill for all of $4 and I used it a lot. I think I still have it in the closet.

My fav find was a red denim jacket. I had saw one in the LLBean catalogue, but it was about $40-. I happened to run into a thrift store to look for clothes for my teen aged daughter (I buy most of all our family's clothes at thrift stores) and I happened to find a red denim jacket! It was made by 'cotton ginny' (do you guys have that store in the US? Or is it just Canadian?) Anyways, I think I paid about $4- for it...I have also managed to get some great pants/jeans for all of us at thrift stores :-) (I also love garage sales and gotten a few neat things there too such as a picture from Ikea (a furniture store) for 50 cents where at Ikea the print is $10-!!) signed, love those bargains :-)

My favorite things would have to be an old dresser with really deep drawers that I got at a yard sale while spending the weekend in NH. It isn't all that pretty, but it was exactly the size I needed it to be and I had been searching for something for several months with no luck before that I found that. The other thing would have to be my pea green boiled wool Loden vintage jacket. I got it at a tag sale at my local Sons of Italy and the woman gave it to me for under $20. It's so warm and wonderful that I don't wear it that often because it makes me sweat! It's just so great though.

I have found alot of goodies at thrift shops, I love to shop them. I also love to shop at garage sales. I have found a used but good condition Kate Spade purse at a thrift shop for $1. I have also found a BeBe Fetal Sounds Baby Monitor, all the headsets, etc included and working for $1. I can't count the amout of adorable name brand baby clothing I have found at 25-50 cents a piece.

I used to volunteer at a thrift shop, helping sort through the items that came in. The lady that owned it was always letting us have stuff for free because she was grateful for the extra help. One day she let me have what looked to be a brand new calfskin book bag. It was gorgeous, and butter soft. I still have it, although it is now a bit battered!

For me, it's a toss up between my furniture (great vintage couch, 1940s floor lamp, little 1950s chair, ceiling light, banker's chair), and some really great vintage designer clothing that I love to wear. But, really, I have all kinds of stuff from thrift stores that I love, so it's hard to pick just one. I think around 95% of what I own was thrifted, from great vintage hoursewares (50s glasses, le creucet pots and pans, pyrex sets) to clothing and bedding and books...it's like a treasure hunt.
