Have checked the s/w (OS is XP pro)... there is no sign of any virus detection... s/w are updated... but it restarts suddenly... Have checked the processor fan, its ok... what else could be the reason and how to solve the problem....

When does it restart? Does it restart at a certain time everyday? Does it restart during a specific activity like playing a computer game? Have you tried changing the power supply? The most likely causes of your problem are: CPU overheating Video card overheating (if you have one) Driver conflict (will usually give you an error message when the computer reboots) A dieing power supply Poor electrical wiring either in your home or a bad power cable going to your computer.

How exactly did you check your processor fan? Did you use a program like motherboard monitor, or did you just look at it? A bad fan may go on and off, I've seen it before. Make sure to use a program as your eyes really aren't sufficient to see if the fan is doing it's job.

Then you should definitely download motherboard monitor. It's a free program that can monitor your temps and fans. Watch it and look for any problems.

have you already tried other's suggestions? is the problem still ocurring? then you could also try this, first boot up to safe mode (press F8 upon startup), then try to play around in that mode, if it doesn't restart then it may be a startup problem, you may want to disable them until you can locate the program causing it. just type msconfig on the run command and edit the startup. better use system restore prior to this to ensure that you can restore the computer if you screw it up.

I've checked the startup programs already.... it's working in a selective startup mode with basic regular services... it seems more like a H/W problem to me.....

if that is happening after a recent hardware change then i think you need to replace your hardware or if it just started happening by itself then i think you need to refresh your os if that doesn't solve the problem there might be some hardware trouble.

The PC is working fine now.......... thanks for all ur comments.... It seems that the H/W was not working properly... There was a lot of dust inside the PC. So I disassembled all the parts cleaned the dust and reassembled it... And after that it's been working fine.... let's hope it keep on working like that......... thanks friends...

Its because of virus,i think you need to perform a full scan with your antivirus. Some times your antivirus cannot repair that infected file at that time delete it manually.

I can't say that I am an expert on this but the first thing I would check would be the power lead, I know it sounds obvious but sometimes it can become dislodged just slightly so someone walking by may trigger the split second of power outage before it restarts. The other thing I would suggest is that the PC is well ventilated, I thought that if PC's became to hot then they could shut down. Take a small vaccuum cleaner and ensure the fans are all dust free, along with the fan intakes at the back or side of the PC. Enure all of the cards are plugged into the motherboard securely and also check your Windows PC settings not for viruses but to make sure there are no hardware conflicts under My Computer/ View system settings/ if a piece of hardware is trying to use the same port, or IRQ address then it may cause the PC to experience problems. You should always wear an anti static wrist band before playing about inside the PC. Hope these things help you.
