Have you read the Bible in it's entirety?

Why did you decide to do it? Did it change your feelings about religion/God? Did you read it to learn about God/Jesus, or did you read it so you could intelligently debate with Christians?

I always had this in mind that I just wanted to read through the entire Bible just to get the bigger picture of how The Holy Bible was written and how things came about so I finally decided one day about 20 years ago and I read one chapter a day every single day and it took me a few years but I did it. Since then, I read the Bible about 3 times and I got a sense of the history of the world and how religious wars got started and many many stories of romance, war, drama and parables which have great lessons on all graces of faith, hope, love and fantastic epics have been derived from the Scriptures which were played out in my mind while I read, I didn't just read it, I absorbed it and experienced it just like reading any great book. I got lessons for every possible situation in life imaginable and much much more than that. All of it made sense to me. I don't like to quote the Bible to others because I think it's an indivual's perrogative to believe what's right for each person. It didn't change my feelings, but I believe that while I was reading the Holy Scriptures, I got direct messages from God for me personally. All I know is I wouldn't have received those messages if I wasn't reading the Bible. I don't like debates, because I try not to judge people, I just think it would help every man, woman and child if they were to do what I did, I think we all could get a lot out of it according to what we each want to believe. Have you read the Bible yet?

I've read the bible several times. The first time I was about halfway through when I realized I was reading it for the wrong reasons. I was just reading it to be able to "beat" the Bible thumpers at their own game with scripture. Since then I've read it for the knowledge that it holds. I loved the way you said you absorbed it and read it like any great book! I think if more people could look at the Bible as a book first, and read it with no preconceived ideas or judgments they'd learn a lot. :-)
