Why does this place feel like a pit that I can't seem to get out of? Ever since I got here it seems like I am trapped.I try to leave and something always comes up and I can never seem to do it.Does anyone know the actual origin of the word Spokane? Does anyone else feel this way about it or have had a smiliar experience?

Spokane is named for the Spokane indian tribe; not sure exactly what the word means. I will try to look it up when I get a chance. Spokane is a city with a small-town mentality. It has been that way for the 33 years I have lived in this vicinity. I live 45 miles outside of Spokane now, and I am much happier. Even further away would be better.

It must be something about Washington. I live clear on the other side of the state and I hear people here say that all the time. Or the other one is they do get out but always end up back here

I lived in Spokane for 24 years before I left. I felt the same way about it. I now live in Tucson, AZ. For some reason it's very easy to hate Spokane when you're there, but it's just as easy to miss some of the things about it when you leave. I miss Riverfront Park and all of it's events like Pig Out In the Park, HoopFest, Bloomsday, etc. I miss the mountains and the green. I miss being able to hop on over to Couer D'Alene and hang out at the beach in the summer. I miss D*ck's Drive In (myLot won't let me use that word because it's offensive, lol), Zips, and some other restaurants that are pretty much local to Spokane. Spokane is a love/hate thing, it's wierd like that.
