Render unto Ceaser that which is Ceaser, and unto the writer which is thiers

Do you rate people for the best, the good, the worse and the ugly comments? I used to not to but then I started to notice the symbols and I now try to make a conscious effort to make sure those that do a great job with their comments (or sometimes not) get noticed. It was brought to my attention when someone with a medium star rating had a really good comment on one of my discussions.
Just a thought.

I usually rate everybody who response to my discussions with a positive rating, unless it was something totally irrelevant or nonsensical. I also rate other posters when I browse through the different discussions, but only those that really attracted my attention through the quality of their writing, or maybe with their wit or humor. I have also use the "!" once, to report someone that was spamming, typing obviously copied and paste material as discussions without any questions or discussion starters. Yes, I totally agree that we should use our responsibility to rate other posters. By doing so, we encourage relevant discussions and quality responses.

I personally have been trying to rate every comment positively as long as the writer was genuinely making an effort to contribute to the conversation. I don't feel the need to give positive ratings to those who just make a random comment that contributes nothing. On the flip side I also don't feel these people deserve a negative rating either. Most comments though are positive and add to the discussion in some way and therefore deserve a positive rating in my book. I noticed that your opinion was not part of your discussion. How do you feel about the subject of what deserves to be rated?
