I'm thinking California, New York, and then either Florida, Alaska, or Hawaii. Gotta go with the big vacation spots...

New York, California, and Florida. New York because we the buisness capitol. Nothing but money coming from over here. California because you have all the celebrities and movies and things of that sort. Florida because of Disney world, the place that every family wants to go and enjoy themselves and Miami for the sizzling sun and beautiful beach. I think that clears up the 3 best states in America.

These are the three I would choose also. Las Vegas is pretty popular but I think your right about more people wanting to go to Disney. Thanks for responding.

I'd have to go with New York because it has the financial capital of the world.
Then California because it is known throughout the world because of the influence of Hollywood.
Then Florida because of the popularity of Disney.

Of course New York because it is the greatest state in the US! Always on, always something happening, plus when immigrants traveled here in the past they came through our harbors! Statue of Liberty. New York is infamous now because of 9/11 as well!!! Everyone I know from other states always want to go to NY!!!
I guess DC would have to be number two though it is not a state either! Only because it is the capitol. Then my third choice would have to be California. Much like NY and everyone knows about Cali.

It surprises me sometimes when I get responses to old discussions. I agree about how famous NYC is, have you ever lived here. This place is my heart, born and raised in (El Barrio) Spanish Harlem it will always be my home but it is just getting too expensive now and harder to make ends meet. Planning on moving down South, for all the money I'm paying now on living expenses I can get a lot more somewhere else.

Hi Caskins, I love Texas, I went there to visit a friend in San Antonio and I loved it. She took me to this place where they had a canal and lots of restaurants, I think it's called the riverwalk, really nice place. Have you ever been to Texas?

okay, off the top of my head i'd say three most popular or well known would be New York, California and Texas(Hawaii?). Now, my three favorite would be Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

Not always freezing, the part of oregon that i love very rarely snows, and is actually jungle like. :) and, hey, New York, not exactly the sauna of the south. LOL

I would say definitely New York (and most would immediately think of NYC and not even realize it has other areas to the state! LOL), California (simply because of the Hollywood action and prestige that follows it) and the third would be Florida. Florida could probably be debated and many might say D.C. (not actually a state but a District and often thought of as a state, obviously known for it's home to the Prez) or Texas (everybody thinks big when they think Texas). But I would guess NY and CA are the top dogs when foreigners are asked to name states in the U.S.

For me, I would say those which are most familiar to me namely Oregon, California and Washington States. All of them are in the West Coasts, facing the Atlantic Ocean. I had been living in Oregon for almost a year, on company relocation trip. Occasionally, I had been visiting Washington states and California too, so these states are familiar to me and I think they are famous to the world too. Besides, I had been to Nevada and also Utah. But they are reknown to the world as Las Vegas and Salt Lake City :)

As a non US Resident, I think I'd have to say new York, California, and Florida. Everyone I know vacations in Florida or California, and I've heard so much about New York City.
I'd love to visit there one day. I'm also going on a road trip of the Californian coast in just a couple of years time too.
We already have it planned lol. We just want to be sure we have enough money to do it comfortably. Then if we decide to stay a few extra days and tour round a little more, we won't be worried about running out of money.

That road trip sounds really nice. Your going to see some beautiful sights along the coast. Make sure you take your digital camera and a big memory card. When the times comes, enjoy it.

Goodness who dug up this old discussion??? Can't blame me..
New York, Florida and California would be my picks...I live in New York (as you know), was born in California..so yes, that could explain my rather wacky eccentric personality...even though I grew up here in NY all my life, as they say, you can take the gal out of the country (this case Calif) but can't take the country out of the gal....Florida...been there...used to go to DisneyWorld all the time--HATE the weather though..too hot and humid all the time..and flat as a board...no mountainous areas...the most exciting thing to do there is to watch the grass grow in most cases (oh, nuts, know I'm going to have wet noodles flung to me for saying that)--Miami was boring as hell unless you are into the disco/barclub scene...which I'm not

Hahaha "(oh, nuts, know I'm going to have wet noodles flung to me for saying that)" I did not know you were born in CA, ever experience one of those earthquakes over there, they must be so scary!

My parents got divorced when I was only a year and a half old...my mother came to home base which was here in NY (my father's family all were Californians)---but my mother told me they experienced "tremors" on an almost daily basis where we were (Garden Grove, Orange County..not far from Los Angeles)..she said the chinaware in the cupboards be rattling all the time, picture frames would be crooked all the time...LOL...I guess I must have been used to the sensation of earthquakes or tremors as a baby.....as some years ago NYC area experienced a 4.0 earthquake...it did wake me up...but fell back to sleep again when my mother who had also awaken said...oh, must be an earthquake...rather than being scared I shrug it off and fell back to sleep again....LOL..in other words...tremors and earthquakes are so common in Calif...most people sleep right through them...so I guess it was ingrained in my psyche to ignore them since I grew up as a baby with that sensation...LOL

I would pick New York, California, and Florida. I'd have to guess these are the 3 most popular states in the US.
Which 3 would you pick Howard?

Appears these are the very popular picks here, yes I love NY (live here), Florida and California I have always dreamed of visiting but I am so afraid of the earthquakes there, that's what has kept me away.

Really? That's what is keeping you way? I've only been in a few myself and I've been here all my life. Most of the ones I've been in were mild.
Although they are more likely to happen in California, earthquakes can happen just about anywhere.
