how do you get your hair dyed?

recently i tried to dye my hair with loreal hair color at home by myself for the first time. well it didnt turn out the way i wanted it to. my hair is very dark brown (it looks black) and i was trying to dye it light brown.I followed all the instructions carefully but when i washed it out it looked the same except for a few slightly lighter pieces on top.so my question is, do you think it didnt turn out because of the brand? do you think i should try a different brand? or do you think i should just get it done professionally? what do you do at home or salon?

Having your hair dyed proffessionally is better...they know what they're doing! ...but I have dyed my own hair in the past with great results... so if you still decide to dye your hair yourself ,you should ask a friend to help you .... first you need to lighten your hair ... go blonde but dont bleach your hair!....wait a day (24 hours)... then you dye your hair with the colour you want.... focus on the top and frame of your face... possibly dye according to how you style your hair ..eg. if you part you hair in the middle dye it parted dont dye your hair like how you would shampooing it!

i done the exact same thing once.i wanted light brown and it actually turned out to be almost black.the more i washed my hair the lighter it eventually got.next time i think i will pay a little more money and get it professionally done.lol

yeah that sounds like a good idea, thats probably what iam going to have to do :)
