What Noises Pollute your earways? Sounds can be shattering or soothing -

Music from a Saturday night party in the neighborhood. Car horns, freeway traffic, revving motors. To a classic music lover, heavy metal may be the most polluting sound. I'm currently having difficulty with the Crazy Cow ring tone. No, I don't have it on my mobile. It is being advertised at every ad break on the TV and unless I get to the mute button quickly my ears are being abused and it actually hurts! What pollutes your ears?

I personally find television to be one of the worst of the irritating noises. I used to get so irritated I felt like smashing the tv. Now I don't watch it and haven't in years. Gawd, what a relief! I listen to a lot of classical music too. Do you like Yo Yo Ma on the cello as much as I do?

I am at this moment listening to Brahms Cello Sonata, it is lovely. Thanks for the tip. Do you have the name of a few favorites?

Any of Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suites, but particularly Suite #1, 1st movement - Prelude, and also Rachmaninov's Sonata for Cello and Piano - Andante: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXpI7xVIuRw YouTube - Rachmaninov: Cello & Piano Sonata in Gm. III:"Andante". I have this piece with Yo Yo Ma on the cello, but it is achingly beautiful no matter who does it, although this video is a pretty tinny recording, nevertheless I love watching their expressions as they play... I can totally relate!

The movie 'Master & Commander - the Far Side of the World' is where I first heard Yo Yo Ma. I didn't much care for the movie, but I love Russell Crow and the soundtrack was excellent. Anyway, here is this link too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFzZOE3qjKU&feature=related YouTube - Master and Commander Soundtrack- Prelude (Yo-Yo Ma)

My doorbell shatters my world. I would disconnect it or change it if this were my home. It plays a variety of songs. Very loud and instrumental.

You hit the nail, shatters your world. I hate that feeling, like someones taking a knife and tearing your skin from the neck to the pelvic bone. Can you take out the batteries?

Put a strip of tape over it with an 'out of order' sign above it.

Rock music, high pitched noises, high pitched opera, fingernails on the chalkboard, squeaky or screechy doors, anything that screeches or scrapes, someone's car music turned up at a million decibels, screechy dryer, a loud yell from a rebellious four-year old and two-year old who both deliberately scream at the top of their lungs at the table on the first evening with the parents and I when I was to be a nanny (I covered my ears because it was deeply uncomfortable and requests to them would not stop it and the parents would not stop it, got let go for that). I love classical music too.

I am sound intolerant due to illness, and there is not many things that compare to the pain of a sound cutting through my head. All sounds may make me ill, but the worst kind is the sounds that just goes on and on and on. Like snoring. Og hissing breathing. Or music coming from next door. Or the neighbours screaming with laughter, them all talking at once so they yell to be heard. or like right now when the play loud music, screaming with laughter and all talking at once + they are jumping or dancing at the same time. For hours and hours. Does noone like silence anymore? I would really really like to be able to have no noise in my own home once in a while. We are moving to a farm in a year or so, and I thought that would be so nice. What do you know, they have startet flying over the farm with helicopters loaded with tourists.

I love silence and can spend days on my own without a problem. It must be difficult having this intolerance you speak of, I can only imagine how irritating it would be. I meditate also which is wonderful and it makes me enjoy silence even moreso. Helps with tuning out too!

It is difficult to handle since there is no way I can controle everyone around me. I too love to spend days alone in silence. Or with a little bit of relaxing music, or soft bird-song. I agree - meditation helps. I think people are afraid to hear their own thoughts so they suround themselves with all this noise.

I can't stand the guys who park outside my apartment building and constantly rev their car motors. I've got news for those guys, my girlfriends and I assume these guys are trying to make up for their shortcomings...if you know what I mean.

Yes. In Australia they have this new commercial compliments of the Accident Safety Commission where it shows young kids driving and doing stupid things and they created this sign of wiggling the little finger to show the size of the drivers manhood! It's quite effective. But have you tried the potato up the exhaust pipe trick, does that actually work I wonder?
