Tools/ Software that U must installed in your computer

What kind of tools or software that you think must be installed in every computer that using windows OS? and why?

Antivirus: avast (freeware, upgrades are automatic) Antispyware: ADAware (freeware, lot of upgrade, but you must upgrade manually) Mulimedia player: Winamp (freeware, with lot of plugins) Office software: openoffice (freeware, in same cases is possible have very good performance) Browser: mozilla firefox (freeware, many plugin to increase performance) Email: mozilla thunderbird (same of firefox) Create cd /DVD: nero burning (shareware, many plugin) Backup: Nortonghost(shareware, is possible create backup of a partion o an entire hd and restore it after you format hd) Registry: Registry mechanic (for maintenance registry of your pc) P2P: Emule (freeware, lot of servers, remember... is not allowed download file protected by copyright) Defragmentation: Fast defrag istant messenger: gaim (support lot of protocol: MSN, Yahoo, jabber, kadu kadu, irc) Pdf: Adobe acrobat reader Photo: photo filtre ( freeware, lot of functions for manipulate your photo) With few money you can have a good and performer PC :-)

Wow... that's a list of good software, how about for compression tools I know it already build in for WinXP but can't open rar format. I use 7zip

you canuse winrar, this software can open lot of type of acrhive formats: .zip, .rar, ecc.... Try it :-)

Are those software effective? I mean if we are often to install & Uninstall software. Our system will getting slower. I know when we uninstall a software there still leave some "garbage" on our computer.

Oh, and maintenance and security applications like: System Mechanic (general PC maintenance), McAfee (antivirus), ZoneAlarm (firewall), AdAware / SpyBoot (anti-spyware).

if you are addicted to internet then you need to have a firewall and antivirus installed above any other software, but if you seldom use the internet then you need softwares like ms office and other useful stuff.

definitely it would be Windows Office and YM messanger. =) because i work in research so office software is what i need i type do worksheets etc.. and YM so that i can keep touch of my friends online all the time =)

for messenger I prefer to use a web base one like www.meebo.com. It's support Aim, YM, MSN, Gtalk and meebo itself.
