Are you an optimistic or a pessimistic thinker?

I always like to think of myself as an optimistic thinker. I like to stay focus and in control of every situations that I'm facing. I try not to be pessimistic, though I can't avoid it at times. I hate feeling weak and helpless. I feel that being pessimistic will lead to nothing but failures. I like to hear how you deal with your life. Do you deal things positively or negatively?

I wouldn't classify myself either way...I am a realist. I don't look thru rose tinted glasses. I do try to see all sides to everything, so if I am talking to someone who is negative about something, I point out the good and vice versa. But I they will always know how I feel on the subject...if that makes any sense. Personally I would like to be more positive...but I don't want to lose my sense of perception.

Oh, I envy you so much, truly! To be able to stay optimistic always... For me, I am rather much of an extremist. You can't usually find me in the center (though I am always trying to seek it) so I would either be optimistic or pessimistic.

Oh no, there's nothing to envy me about. The problem with me is that my personality is either too hot or too cold. Never lukewarm. When I see things going the way I like, I am oozing with positive things in my mind. But if there will be some situations uncalled of, I almost always easily give up.

im a pessimist. someone above mentioned how they are the type of person to walk under a tree and worry about the branch falling...im a bit different than that. instead i consider everything that could go wrong and plan for it. i wouldnt walk under the tree but would go around it instead..just to the branch would not fall on me. planning for the worse to happen means im never shocked when something goes wrong, instead i have a plan of action to deal with it and move on. it also means that i am often pleasantly surprised and therefore pleased when things actually go right for a change! lol

I'd say I am more on the optimistic side. I see the glass as half full, not half empty, I say it is partly sunny, not partly cloudy. It is a shame that we can't always be optimistic about everything, but for me, I find I am happier when I have an optimistic attitude. I am even optimistic about what some may see as failure. I look at it as failure isn't failure if a lesson from it is learned.

It is always better to look on the brighter side rather than the other way around. Bad things happened and we learned to deal with it. And yes, we also learned to revise our plan the next time something comes up.

I used to be pessimistic...just walking under a tree makes me worry about its branch falling on me. I guess experience molds our orientation of thinking. But awareness and environment can help re-orient us. Being with people who openly shares their experience on optimism and pessimism made me laugh at things and focus on its goodness. Eventually, I had to make my choice to look upon what could give me hope rather than harm and it gave me peace of mind.

I think most of the time I look forward but sometimes I freeze because it's too painful too think about whats in the future , I try so hard not to think about what could happen , I hope that makes sense ( mam and dad both have alzheimer's) and I tend to live for the moment just now xx

My wife and I are complete opposites. Leading the AA life I choose to live one day at a time. Doing that you have to be optimistic as there isn't any tomorrow. I never worry about bills saying, "If it's paid good, if not, maybe another day they'll get it." I do this in all aspects of my life & it's worked fine for almost 16 years. I don't worry if a bill's paid as long as there isn't any problems at the time. I used to look at the bad side always as does my wife. Sh'e learning little by little. Anyhow I hope I worded this good enough to be understood. HAHA. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

I try to always look at the positive sides of things, but really, it's sometimes hard to. After having experienced several misfortunes in my family the past few years AND working in the health industry, I am aware that things may turn out bad and there is nothing we can do about it. However, I always try to look at the positive side, even if the bad has already happened.

My response to that is: People always say I'm a pessimistic so I say, I'm not pessimistic I'm realistic, it's not my fault the world is so bad. I can be a real cheerful person sometimes, but sometimes I can think of some bad possibilities.

I tend to lean towards pessimistic. I always think the worse and hope for the best. It drives my husband batty but it is just how I am. I have anxiety so maybe it has something to do with it.

I hate to admit this, but I tend to be more of a pessimist. I always think of the worse and expect the worst things to happen to me. In some cases, it's actually good since I get hurt less when something I didn't expect would happen didn't happen at all. If I was optimistic about it, I would've gotten more frustrated because it didn't happen. But then again, there are also instances when positive thinking works. I guess when you're vibes are all positive, the positive does happen. I guess being an optimistic/pessimistic thinker depends on the situation too. :) And it is funny to note that I always tell my friends to look on the bright side of things while I dwell on the negative side. :)
