I used to go to my grandmothers church when I was a child and the majority of children, can't sit still long enough for the service. Alot of parents used to bring small toys, and coloring things as well as small candies and things to keep the children quite just because they are doing other things doesn't mean they aren't hearing what they should and they are sitting quitely as well and not bothering others

It depends on the age of the child and the ability of the child to stay still and listen in any situation. If there's a children's church, that's where children belong until they can sit quietly. If they will be quiet but still aren't ready to listen, make sure they have coloring sheets or a Sunday School paper to keep them occupied. Otherwise the time can get very long for them. Put yourself in their position. They are too short to see anything and too young to understand what the pastor is saying. How would you react in a similar situation? If the child is bigger I would seat them right next to me. If the child misbehaves, I would take his hand gently or put my arm around him. I do that in assemblies when I have to take my class. Your physical prescence and touch help him refocus and control himself.

I don't think there is one. I will say to you to try this: tell your child that if Christ sees that he/she has heard everything then Christ will love him/her more. Sorry, but my son hasn't reached that age yet. Till now he is dazzled by the icons around.

My mothers church has alot of music in the begning, then they do a childrens moment where the children all gather in the front and have a short discussion with the pastor. After she hands them a large baggie with some church related papers and crayons so that they can color and be distracted whild the adults listen to the pastors sermon. Maybe you can have church related coloring books and crayons available.
