I'd say she's a very beautiful, headstrong woman, who knows what she wants, sets out to get it, makes mistakes along the way, learns from them and grows up in the process.

Scarlet was a type of woollen cloth common in mediaeval England. The name refers to the actual cloth, not the reddish orange colour. It is probable that name of the character Will Scarlett in the Robin Hood legends referred to this type of cloth, similarly to the common occupational surnames (e.g. Weaver, Cooper, Fletcher, &c.).

NOT SHREWD!!! Scarlett is just a go getter. Actually, she's a VERY STRONG WOMAN. For someone, who is used to a luxurious life and be able to survive the civil war, she's something. With will and determination she survived it all.
