get lost

When we have lost in a first visited city, where is the best place that we can get the best information?

basically when i do visit a city locally or internationally i usually go to the nearest municipal hall or tourist guide information (usually inside a mall)... it will help if you always have your mobile phone with you and always have the emergency numbers (local police, friends, tourguide, airport service, cab service) when you got lost.

If your country's embassy is at hand, go approach them. Or the local police.
Otherwise, the next hotel you see would be a good bet. The staff should have the expertise to help you.
