What are your criteria in selecting the thread you want to respond to?

How do you select a thread you want to respond to? is it purely intuitive or you have some kind of censorship of your own while selecting the thread . are there any other criterias you follow?

I first of all respond to all my friends topics but only if I can make a quality contribution. Then I browse through all the new discussions and try to select those that I can respond to. I have no special criteria, some topics suit me and others don't, in which case I just move on the the next.
