If you love watching the night sky and love seeing the phases of the moon, this Saturday there will be a lunar eclipse. This gives the moon a copper color but many long ago would call this "Blood on the moon".
Blood on the moon would be an indicator that there was something bad to come.
Do you believe this wives tale?
Do you enjoy watching an eclipse?
Those in Europe, the Middle East and Africa will be able to watch its progress. But those in North America will the effect as soon as it rises at sun set.

OMG FABULOUS! I hope its a clear night here damn it...I'd love to get some pics if possible....As for the Blood on the Moon something bad happening thing....Yea I do lean towards it because it has actually happened in my life on more than one occasion (same with birds flying into your windows) BUT I dont get into a panic about it....I mean the reality is, if somehting is goin to happen, somehting is goin to happen and you cant do anythign about it....

Well, I wish you the best on Saturday. :)
And I hope it is not cloudy here either!
I always seem to miss it because of the clouds being in the way.
Maybe this time I will get to see it and take some pictures myself too!
I will be sure to share if I do! And I welcome you to share also! :D

I really like the eclipses solar or lunar. Lunar are the better to see if the sky allows it. Often cloud cover makes it not even viewable. There are a few sayings that still ring true. In fact "blood on the moon" would really appeal to me. Like Friday 13, I find it a good thing. I guess it is all about perception.

I totally agree with you. It is all about perception. :)
I view as Friday the 13th as a day of luck for me. Good things always happen to me on those days. :)

I like Friday the 13th's also but I can understand where that came from. The Knights Templar's being slaughtered on Friday October 13, 1307. It's understandable to see why it would be unlucky. :)

Oh we might have to try and catch this. Jason loves things having to do with the stars, planets, and moon and what not. I think they are okay. He actually got a telescope from his Mom for Christmas. We haven't used it yet cause its been so cold and snowy.

Hey thanks for the heads up. Now i can watch it while i make sure i'm at home. LOL i do believe that blood on the moon is a bad omen, and typically, bad things tend to happen to me if i'm not at home. There've been nights where we've gone out to go somewhere, looked up into the lovely night sky, and there's been a huge red moon right over us. Oh, yes. staying home saturday. What do you think? ill omen, or just pretty display?

I think that there have been times that Blood on the Moon happened when bad happened. I do not know if it is a warning or if it is a coincidence.
I think sometimes the shadowing of the moon lessens its power...but the fact that the planets are aligned could be helpful to other energies.
So, I am undecided. LOL

Ohh Thank you so much for telling me :) I hadn't heard about it. I love watching the lunar eclipses. I don't by into old wives tales like this one too much because we now know why there is "blood" on the moon at this day and age.
Thanks again :)

Oh it was so pretty!!! I did take a couple of shots but with my creative limited camera I'm not hopeful. I was so glad it stopped snowing and the clouds went aways so I could see it. Or at least some of it :)

That sounds like it would be really cool to look at. I've heard of this before and have always wanted to see it. Unfortunately for me, it looks like it's going to be cloudy and snowing for the next few days and I don't thin I'll be able to see it.

I heard something about this earlier today but I didn't read the article. I kind of knew that you would post it so I decided to wait.lol. I'll probably check it out but since it will be alreay eclipsed it won't be as exciting as the one year I watched it go through all the phases. And for the myth of bad things happening, I always thought it was good when the sun, moon and earth were in allignment.

i remember experiencing once when i was in elementary..
it was a total solar eclipse here in the Philippines, and the exact one is in our place, zamboanga city, Mindanao..
it will happened at the peak of hot sunshine, and all of the students that day went out of the classrooms and gathered basins of water and others share film and x-ray strips for viewing the event, our principal had the shades of pure black which she purchased from science lab..
i had just a little x-ray square for protection, we got all excited, and it does pays of.. the event was slowly... and we were in silence and some are so excited..
i saw a little circle slowly covering the sun every minute...
and the total solar eclipse happened just seconds...
and it was total darkness in the middle of daylight...
some got scared, i was just staring with marvel and wonder... i dont know, somehow it fascinates me a lot... i didnt watch the basin of water for shadow..
i just stare at it in astonishment.. maybe its an experience once in a life time, but a counter part of my brother who's in tawi2x back then , a place lower than the latitude from our location he was in seashore, and it was their place who had the most viewable and open to the eclipse, where he said,
at the exact time and momentum of the solar eclipse he had the weirdest he ever experience at the sea..
as if the sea had a life although not so completely visible, he heard some creatures from the deep splurged out and made some unexplainable noise.. as if they interact with the event...
and he even noticed strange creatures shadows appearing in the middle of the sea making some strange noise as well...
its his experience, so i cant say believe it or persuade you, but who knew how mysterious eclipses influence our world and how phenomenon occurs and gave us clues of our possibilities and discovery beyond what we ever believed..
so take care ^_^

Really? I live in the Philippines. That means it will be during daytime here when the lunar eclipse will occur. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait for another thousand years. Hope not.

Thanks for the information! i will take my girlfriend to watch it with me tonight! hope the weather is good! and she better enjoy it! bad things happen every day it would be coincidence if the moon was red and bad things happened to you! however the moon is supposed to affect peoples moods so it could make people more inclined to make bad descisions!

Actually up until a few years ago I never knew about "blood on the moon"--not until I saw the movie Practical Magic--where Sally Owen (Sandra Bullock) was rescuing her sister Gilly (Nicole Kidman) from her crazed boyfriend ..she says "Blood on the Moon" and tries to find her tiger's eye necklace for protection...so whether it is a bringer of bad news or trouble??? Who Knows

I totally forgot about that part of the movie. :) I love that movie!
And your right, they do mention "blood on the moon".
I also like the one when the broom falls and that indicated that "company was coming". LOL My grandma used to say that one.

I think to ancient people an ecclipse was a very frightening (unknown) thing.. and therefore, it very well may have been a negative portent.. but now that we see an ecclipse is an awesome event.. I would lean more toward it being a good portent.. Perhaps it's a good sign for the spiritual and the well intended.. but for any one working more in the negative.. doing harm, etc.. perhaps it's still a bad sign for them..

I am not saying that something bad will happen.
I am saying that some believe that "Blood on the Moon" is a predictor of something bad to come.

I need to add something important. Do not look directly at the eclipse, as you can go blind. That is for real, I am not kidding.

I am upset! :(
The sky was crystal clear, and we missed it.
I love watching the night sky, and the moon with
its phases. It peaceful, and fun while with my mom! :D
I wish we would have seen it!!
But, now all we have to do is be patient for the next one
in August. That is alright though, I can wait! :)
Anyway, thanks for the discussion...maybe I can catch it
next time.

Ohhh how exciting. I didnt actually see ,not sure if it was viewable from Australia? I believe a blood moon is actually a sign of a new begining, a cleansing of sorts. I dont feel anything negative associated to it at all. I suppose its how you perceive it in yourself that counts ;)
