I want to add a tree this spring that supplies natural food for birds in Zone 5. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Aww, that's so nice of you! You must really care for birds to think of that. o^__^o
I haven't experiences in planting trees, unfortunately. -_-" But when I think of trees, I always think of fire trees and oaks! ^_^ Oaks especially sound like a good bird-tree.^^ So sturdy and friendly.
Good luck on your tree-planting! \m/^_^

pollyandy: Ehehe, you're right, I shouldn't have bothered.. but I love trees, and I just have to say something.^^ And for the record, I do know that oaks are one of the slowest growing trees.. plus they are magnificent, and birds love them.
bonbon50: Aww, you must live in a lovely area! o^__^o And I'm glad you adore oaks too!^^

Definately mulberry, sweet cherry...go to arborday.org and look around in there. I know somewhere in there they have a list of trees that birds love. I belong to the arborday foundation and currently in their hazelnut program. I know hazel nuts are a fave of birds but it's a bush, not a tree.
