please help me explain the difference between fund raising and scam :(

i am trying to help a friend with the fund raising for a wonderful parish church in venice italy. donations from organizations and individuals (even small donations) are needed and welcome. i offered to spread the word on the net and try to reach potential foreign donors. i posted some messages on specific forums (about catholic religion), but my posts were cancelled because they feared it was scam. it's not. i provided info together with the parish church's website http://www.chiesasansalvador.it which has also an english version. everything can be verified. so what else can i do to explain that these guys are in need? where can i look for help? any ideas?
