do u know bollywood? asking especially to international people on myLot!!

do u people know that there's something like bollywood and what is it? i m a little confused because a fellow citizen of mine here on mylot was claiming that he thinks nobody outside north india knows that indian movie industry is known by this name. so i m wondering as all of the international friends i have other than mylot had already heard about bollywood before my telling them! many of my friends love bollywood and those who don't know atleast have heard something about it.
so what about u? have u ever heard of bollywood? if yes then how did u come to know it? i m realy curious to know!!

I would have to say that being a British Indian I have watched Bollywood films for many years and I know many non-Indians who watch Bollywood films (with the subtitles on obviously) and who really enjoy them. It's a bit naive to say Bollywood isn't known outside of North India, my husband is South Indian and he always knew of Bollywood when he was growing up. Bollywood has become more well known since Shilpa Shetty appeared in and won Celebrity Big Brother in the UK and it was well publicised that Tony Blair watched a Hindi film for the first time recently. That's one mean feat, as I guess he doesn't have much time for watching films generally let alone watching a Bollywood one. People like Aishwariya Rai have been known outside of the Indian film industry for quite some time now so it really isn't correct to assume Bollywood is unknown outside of North India :)
