My wife and I are raising 6 of our 11 grandchildren. There are many horror stories associated with them coming to us. I'll be talking about them in the weeks to come. We are katrina survivors from the Loewr 9th ward. Our house had 6 feet of water. The house can come back we just don't have the money to to get the work done, that's another stroy. We went to Georgia before the storm hit. When we realized what happen to our home we got the children in school asap. They did well is Ga. for the school year. we are now back in Louisiana living in the central part of the state. We're facing many problems that we just don't know the outcome. It hard not being control of your life. Not knowing what tomorrow will bring. I'm hoping this post will start a discussion that will help myself and others cope with this thing we call life. I'll be adding stories as time permits. feel free to chat with me about your thoughts on these issues.

I can't even imagine what you're going through- I have heard so many sad stories from my brother in law - who went down to help out. What if anything can people do to assist people down there who are having a hard time??? that would be a good discussion to post.. some people just think since it's not on the news anymore - everything is okay. Use this site to help make people more aware...give your heading a catchy title to grab the peoples attention.

Thank you so much for your timely response...All is not well in New Orleans. going on two years I still don't know when we'll be able to start on our home let alone get home. what I'd like for people to know is that,"IT'S NOT OVER". It won't be over for some time.

First let me say Welcome to Mylot...If you need any help or want to talk, I will send you a request, reason being, I'm from Mobile and had family come from New Orleans who are also survivors... One thing I can say is keep your head up and never give up...Your family is going to be your strength through it all to keep you going... I also commend you and your wife for raising some of your grandkids, my grandparents raised me as well... I can imagine what you're going through and probably a few more of life lessons thrown your way, however, keep hope and have faith... Look forward to seeing future posts from you...

I was in New orleans this weekend. Thank you so much for the encourgaging words. I'm so happy to hear your relatives are ok. Please give them my best and let them know I keep all survivors in my Prayers. I'd love to talk to anytime, you never know who you'll talk to that you can or can help you. We all want to be able to take care of ourselves on our own but I've learned we need each other to get through this ordeal. Believe me it,"NOT OVER YET".

What is really bad about the entire situation is the fact that the world acts as if everything is fine now. I was shocked to see that a year later nothing has changed in most areas. I went through the 9th ward and New Orleans east (heavily populated by African americans) and it looked like Katrina happened a week before. I look forward to reading the views of people from other countries who respond to this discussion.

Thank you for your concern and words of interest. Recovery is very slow to say the least. There are so many people who want to come home but can't, I'm one, sometimes I feel my city and state don't want me back. Now those are harse words, but true words. Like you I'm interested in what others around the world are hearing about Katrina victums. I'd ask anyone who reads this to let us know your thoughts. THANK YOU, DADCARES

I wish your TV would report what's going on today. It would be interesting to know what the world thinks of the U.S.A. after seeing how Americans have been treated.

Hi, I'm in England, a very very long way away from the horror that was Katrina, but we saw what happened and feel deeply for everyone involved. I watched a programme aired on English TV recently that showed the devastation a year on and I was shocked to see exactly what little has been done. My utmost respect and admiration goes out to you, your wife and all the survivors for coping in such difficult and heartbreaking circumstances and I look forward to reading more from you in the future.

Thank you for your heartfelt comments. It is a shame the way we have been treated and continue to be. I'll only hope is to hang on and hope the bottom dosen't fall out before help comes. At this point all we can do is wait.

My heart goes out to you and your wife. What a good thing your did by taking your grandchildren in. If there is something I could do to help you out,I'd be glad to. I will pray for you and your family. Have you heard of extreme make over with Ty Benning(not sure on the spelling)? It's a show on Sunday nights at 7pm central time where him and his crew fix up people's homes who have had rough times. It sounds like you would be a good fit for the show. Good bless you and your family.

I cannot begin to imagine the horrors you have lived through. Many people here in Canada watched as katrine hit with complete and utter shock and helplessness. Many of us didn't have the means to get down to the State to help out. I'm so so glad that you and the grandchildren are together and that they're doing well. Take things step by step, a day at a time, and eventually things will begin to turn around. I applaud you for your courage in writing your experiences down here for us to read. Reliving moments like that is incredibly hard. I wish you all the very best of luck in the coming days, weeks and months. Stay Strong.
