My son wants to bleach his hair

He plans on bleaching it as white as it will go as soon as school gets out. Personally, I have no problem with him doing this and think it will suit him. He is a good kid, and a polite boy, but he is concerned that the general public will perceive him differently, as though he is a hoodlum. He already has his ear pierced, and although he has only received favorable comments he is concerned. If you saw a pre-teen or teen (he will be 12 by then) with dyed or bleached hair, would you automatically assume, "Trouble!"?

Well, that fact that I am 32 years old and I have black hair with purple streaks...no, I would not assume Trouble. I would think that the child is experimenting with his or her hair and trying to find who he or she is. I know I found who I am. And I have had blue or purple hair for the past 5 years now. :)

I wouldn't think badly of anyone, at any age, for their hair. I think I am raising a sensitive boy that he picked up on this following his earing. Personally, I went grey very young so I look like I have done something to my hair anyway, even when I haven't.

if u have no problem with dying hairs no problem but if u allow him to dye the hairs from now the hair will become weak and will fall if the dye is not suiting him i think so dying hairs from now is dangerous for fashion we should not do what is other doing

I dn't know if it will cause him too much damage as his hair is pretty short and he will be cutting off the belached bits. I wonder if it might burn his scalp, though?

There was a time that I would have had to think twice about what kind of kid would dye his hair a wierd color. But so many good kids are doing this that I don't even notice. When my boys were about that age it was long hair. It is a sign of rebellion not a bad sighn just that they want to be different. so let him go ahead with it. If he dosen't like it it will grow out.

Seamonkey My son is 12 who this past summer decided to grow his hair long. We live in the south here in the US and most southern boys keep their hair cropped real short. He is also a skateboard enthusiast. Mind you he and his best friends are A A/b students and truly good kids. They are supervised closely and their activities are monitored. After they started growing their hair out, you could visibly see peoples attitudes changing towards them. I have had to have talks with teachers, the neighborhood we live in because we are new since April of last year there are folks that think they are criminals. I was astounded at the treatment they were getting, just because of their style. Mind you I like longer hair, I am a product of the 70's after all. It's unreal. So no I would not assume. But do not be surprised when he starts getting treated as an outcast or punk.

That is so sad but it seems an unfortunate reality of life. The silly thing is he is an extremely polite and well thought of young man.

Of course I would. Whatever he wants to do is fine with me as long as it isn't something that's going to get him expelled from school, or had something carved or written in it that offended other people.

I don't have a problem with dying hair. I dyed my hair when I was in middle school, and continued to dye it. I know I was a girl, and some may see a difference, but why shouldn't boys be allowed to take care of their hair and make it look good if they want to? I don't see it as "trouble", I see it as self-expression in a very harmless way. Just as long as he picks a safe hair color and is careful with it, things should be fine. Oh, by the way, I have two nephews who color their hair and wear earrings, and nobody has complaints about them.

He is a 12 year old boy, of course he is trouble! Just kidding :P It seems pretty normal to me to see something like that. Any kid who's in middle school/high school is going to experiment with different things, mainly looks, how else will he find out who he is?

I prefer having my hair short .My hair was pretty long about 4 months ago and I decided that I needed a change so I cut it. I think that I like the way that I looked better when it was long and prefer it long. I've been at the hairdressers every week trying to get my length back.I like having my hair long, but it all depends on if it suits the person
