My G/f got a brand new car a few months ago since day one she says it has run terrible adn gotten real bad gas milage she has taken it in a few times to have it looked at been give several excuses as to why it runs the way it does. Some were funny like: Type of fuel you are buying Cause you let others drive it These new cars react differently to different weather conditions The way you are driving it Put those gasoline additives in Do not let it have less than half a tank of gas Try driving different routes to where you are going and on I drove it yesterday adn it was awful so I took it to the same dealership that she uses adn told them it was running bad they took a look and replaced a few sensors and coupel other things all under warrenty I then asked about a few of the suggestions that had been made to her and told they were all BS. Tha tnight i found out she has spent about $500 the car having the problem looked at but not soloved later today going to get her money back. Why do dealership or garages treat women this way? Has this ever happened to you?

I love the fact that I was a girl and an only child for 10 years and my dad really wanted a boy. I ended up getting a 72 Buick Skylark as my "ride" when I was 16 but ONLY after I rebuilt the engine with my dad. I learned it all and yes, it's different today with the electronics and such but I have enough knowledge to scare the beejeezes out of the mechanics that think boobs and car knowledge can't come together! LOL I had a guy try to tell me they had to fix the carborater in a fuel injected car when fuel injection cars were fairly new. I got all serious and went "No way?! Wow, I bet that's expensive!" He gets all concerned... starts telling me about how much it would cost, blah blah and I looked at him and said "You know, I'm thinking you better get your mechanic over here to explain it, sounds pretty complicated.. after all I'm pretty upset I got a fuel injected engine with a carborater! I'll bet GM is going to be mad at the guy that built this one!" The look on the guys face was priceless. He then proceeded to tell me it wasn't that carborater, I misunderstood.. it was a computer chip that acts like a carborater. LOL I explained that if he so much as touched the car I'd show him where a carborator hurts most and took the car to another shop. The funny part is... my ex husband used to be useless when it came to a car. He'd go to the dealer and they could tell him the windshield fluid needed replaced and it was a 3 day job and he'd believe them!!!!!! I was the one the mechanics had to figure out! Now I have a dealer that I go to for all my needs and a regular mechanic that I can trust.

Well, here's not only what I think, but what I know to be a fact having been in the auto business for 27 plus years. Every person buying a car without much experience in doing so, should be accompanied by someone who is experienced. The last 7 years of my career I spent training dealership personnel about the pit falls of such practices. So, let me tell you what was BS and what may not have been. 1." Type of fuel you are buying" is NOT BS. If you buy cheap huggiebear, you get cheap. This means that when you go to non-brand name gas stations, they buy surplus gas from many different companies, but thru one supplier. The negative affect on the vehicles milage stems from not consistently using gas with a high quality and quantity of fuel additives. This will cause pooer gas milage. So, stick with the name brands and get your vehicles off of junk gas. 2. "You let others drive your car"..Possibly. If a driver has a "lead foot", that car will get worse gas milage. Accelerate like there was a raw egg under your foot and watch the gas milage improve. 3. I think the weather theory is probably BS, but then I'm not an engineer so there could be some truth to that, but I can't imagine weather haveing any major impact on gas milage. 4. "The way you are driving it" Same as #2 above. 5. "gas additives" in a new car is BS. They are designed to run on good grades of 87 octane, and don't need additives. If you live in a cold climate, its possible your state requires an additive in all fuels sold within your state to reduce emissions, but that would hardly account for a noticible difference in fuel economy. 6. "Less than a half a tank is BS. 7. Different routes"... unless she is commuting long distances, that would make a great difference. But, remember that stop and go driving does lessen fuel economy noticably. 8. Being charged for anything except abuse and road hazzard while the car is still under factory warranty is DEFINITELY BS... I would go to the owner and complain as well as get my money back. If he can't offer up some form of compensation for your time and expense, then I'd complain to the BBB and find an appropriate column in the local paper and issue your complaint there too. Here that column is called "Action Line", and they do help you resolve such issues. YOU DID GOOD HUGGIEBEAR..!!! EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A FRIEND LIKE YOU. KUDO'S LADY..!!!

i agree some but when you buy a new car and you can tell the difference between it running good and running bad and they give you these suggestions i would consider it wrong since when i took it in they replaced sensor etc adn it run great. It just frustrates me that people take advantage of peopel and cars casue they do not know any better. Makes me wonder if it happens to me with things i do not know enough about

it happens a lot of the time actually unfortunately, a lot of dealerships and mechanics will actualy often try to screw women over more than anyone else because they think that they dont know whats going on and so they think they can get the most out of them, it really sucks but it happens a lot more often than we would like, my ex-fiance often had problems with people like that

Taht is so true finding out She had a repairman over to fix furnace adn he had to recharge the air filter and rotate the belt drive. Charged her almost $200 to do it. She really feels like peopel are out to take advantage of her just because she is a woman.
